Recommendations for a Car Canopy with a Hard Roof Type
Gals and Guys - Your thoughts or recommendations on a hard roof canopy that you could pick-up and move if need be?
With the Houston summer fast approaching I want something that can protect my car that is parked in the driveway from the direct heat and even heavy downpours. I tried those pop up 10'x10' tents but with a bit of weather, the rain pockets in the fabric and they collapse easily plus they can blow away. I also thought about an awning that extends from my garage entrance, but every awning manufacturer says they have to be retracted once it rains or when it gets windy. I am trying to keep this old thing out of the direct elements. ![]() Thanks, Yasin

On the popup 10x10 tents, keep the legs splayed inwards a bit and it will put more dome in the top which helps with the rain. Also, put some weight on/near each leg (folks that do farmers markets, etc... hang a kettle bell, dumbell cinder block, etc...) from each corner and that helps with the wind. Also, if you aren't working on the car, then retract the legs to the lowest setting you can without touching the car and that will help.

Thanks Steve...those are good options.
BK911 - A metal carport is not portable and my HOA will not allow it either. Doing some research this morning...maybe something like this? ![]()

The cantilevered designs are really nice but anything light enough to move (cantilevered or otherwise) has a pretty tough time dealing with wind.

Crazy idea. But....
Make a custom sized pvc framework. Keep it low and legs angled out to add stability. Cover it with heavy tarp or plastic awning material. Should be quick and easy to take down for storage. Will probably need some type anchor or weight to keep it down in heavy wind. You might be able to clip the ass end supports to the garage. Should be cheap. |
