I generally don't follow celeb news but this guy was, imo, a legit musician with an amazingly unique and powerful voice. Made great music under several band names and back in the day rocked way harder than any other post nirvana popular grunge band.

One of the best screams in all of rock. He was to perform in Houston next week. RIP.

Sad news. Hell of a great talent. I grew up with Soundgarden as a teenager of the 90s.

I can't believe he hung himself.So sad

I need to listen to some of his stuff then. The whole grunge genre sort of went over and around me. I'm a happy 80s music guy, what can I say?

"Later on Thursday, the medical examiner ruled Cornell's death as suicide by hanging."

Chris Cornell dead

Man just awful.

I guess lyrics like 'sitting here like uninvited company, wallowing in my own obscenity, share a cigarette with negativity' don't come from the happiest of places

God I loved his music. How about the short guitar solo in 'heavens dead'...so perfectly fit into the song. And 'doesn't remind me' is so fantastic in its lyrics and music.

I don't know who the guy is, but my son-in-law was at the concert in Detroit. He was a big fan.

I wasn't a super-fan, but I've always enjoyed his vocals on this song (that was outside of grunge IMHO):

Another good one with Audioslave:

If you're not into the "grunge" sound but like real hard 80s style rock, their first two albums Ultramega OK and Louder than Love are more flat out hard rock than grunge. Now, they're hard rock by a bunch of disillusioned teenagers that hated society and money and recording studios and glam rock and all of that, so half of the songs are digs at that, but the music is still there, and is still the hardest stuff he ever did.

Full On Kevin's Mom did Stacy's Mom first and far better, while Big Dumb Sex is just a masterpiece, play it loud and proud :p

But more honestly, Jesus Christ Pose is one of the songs that would be on my Life Soundtrack if they ever made a movie about me. I can't listen just once, I need to play it over and over again, louder each time. That double time guitar rift is just awesome.

The cover they did of Homicidal Suicidal is pretty amazing. I lost track of them early on but always dug Louder than Love. As a 40yo Seattlite this has been major news for my peers.

He was recently on one of the morning news shows doing an acoustic set and talking about song writing. He had written the theme to "The Promise". The Promise (2016) - IMDb. He was just a few years younger than me and I lived in Seattle during this period. He was very talented and certainly appeared on top of the world. My birth father committed suicide a few months after I was born. I reunited with both sides of the family 25 years ago. To this day, his death affects the surviving family. People never understand why I don't really celebrate my birthday. For so many, it was not a happy day.

Can't help but think about one of cornell's older songs 'Pretty Noose'. Different meaning than his suicide for sure but still includes the line "and I don't like what you got me hanging from...."

Thank you for sharing this. I relate to the author completely as Cornells death has hit me much harder than the rest.

IMO that article just attempts to justify and even further the romanticizing of drug abuse. Crock of **** imo. Cornell was great. His death isn't inextricably related to his talent. It's in spite of it. This lie that drugs like heroin are part and parcel of great music just sets the newly rich and famous up for failure. Maybe one day we can stop pretending chemically altered states are required to translate feeling into music.

Jeez, go back to licking Trumps balls. That article did nothing to glorify his drug use. In fact the author stated that he thought Chris would rise above it all. The dude killed himself, most likely a combination of habitual drug use to medicate chronic depression, something that people suffer from everywhere.
