Alexa is always listening. Creeps me out.
Even when I don't address her, she responds. I'm thinking of disconnecting her but my kid loves asking her questions. I don't Google much anymore.

Siri too. No thanks.

Why would I pay a company to provide them so much intimate information?

When NBC says "alexa" in a new article it/she wakes up.

So can you rename Alexa.. Maybe to Slim Shady  |
More than Alexa is listening to you:

If she sounded like "Friday" then I'd use the app.

I honestly don't get the appeal. Who wants a machine listening to them all day? And for what...to save the effort of picking up a phone and googling something?

As far as listening in all the time...doesn't it just listen for the wake-up word first..and then connect to wi-fi? I don't think it's listening in when it hasn't been addressed. I really don't care if mine is listening in just then or all the time. I can't imagine a person sitting somewhere else being interested in what is said. All they would hear from my place, would be a lot of cussing, as I am trying to rehab this leg!:) |

he'll go back and reread his post at some point and go 'ahhhh, I see' |
It's a shame these things don't come with an "off" switch. ;)

When you want to use Echo, simply say the wake word, “Alexa,” and Echo lights up and streams audio to the cloud, where the Alexa Voice Service is leveraged to recognize and respond to your request instantly |
Oh ok they said it's not listening. Just listening.

I just got done setting up a bunch a webcams in my house too. You know, for MY security.

Wow, and I thought I was maybe being a little paranoid turning my phone off when I am driving.
So if they are actually out to get you, it means you are not really paranoid, right? |
Heck, they even used a murdered woman's Fitbit to charge her husband for murder...
