aftermarket back-up camera recommendation...

I'd like to add a back-up camera to my truck (2007 Ram 1500 4x4) to give the wife some added confidence when negotiating tight spaces (her request). I can certainly replace the stock radio with a newer video receiver that accommodates a back-up camera input, but that seems like more trouble than it may be worth (although it would be the cleanest install).

Any recommendations for reasonable solutions? Does anybody have one of the those aftermarket rearview mirrors with the LCD screen for the back-up camera?

Thanks for the help.

I installed a Yada wireless camera from Costco in my sister's RX330. Pretty easy and the monitor plugs into a cig lighter. You can hard wire it if you want to. It was about $100, and Costco has a newer version with a mag mount for the camera for use on trailer hitches.

It's a very good idea to add the camera, for safety and trailer hook-up / towing...

I put the Peak 1 ones on my truck and my wife's minivan 5 years ago.

The one on my truck would drain the battery (cig lighter stays live after ignition shut off), so I had to remember to unplug it. That eventually became forgetting to plug it in at all. The last time I tried to use it, about six months ago. there was condensation inside the lens and it wouldn't give a clear picture. I'm also far better at backing up by turning my head, so I found it had next to no utility. I also ignore the built-in one on my Mustang.

The one on my wife's van she now leaves unplugged as well, though she never had the battery drain issue (her van shuts off power to the cigarette lighters when turned off) and it still works fine.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll take a look at those cameras.

Legion - I'm with you - I'm fine with using mirrors and turning around.

When I got my Boxster, I had a new head unit installed. I had a loaner car that had a backup camera, so when the place asked if I wanted one installed with the stereo, I said yes. It's freakin' awesome! Because the head unit supports a backup camera, it also overlays the guide lines on the video similar to a factory camera (only difference is that the lines don't curve if you turn the wheel like many factory units). I can back my car into a park only using the camera and get the thing straight and centered. The only time that's tough is if the idiots parked on either side are way off in their spots.
