FAA incident ...
So... for us non-pilot types... how do you report an alligator strike to teh FAA ? Are they tracked like bird strikes?

Probably like any other damage incident. Land based animal strikes probably happen more than we think.
I have had to "adjust" my flare flying small GA aircraft because of animals on the runway. Of course with this being WI there was a deer strike back in the 90s that made the news. It was a larger twin Beech or something.

On a side note, that was a pretty good sized gator.

Larger side of medium, but there are plenty on Lake Alice (UF campus) and Paynes Prairie (just S. of town) that are much bigger... that gator that got into it with a wild horse that was going around a few weeks ago was from Paynes Pr.

The H-60 folks out of NAS North Island do a lot of touch and goes, hover and goes, at Imperial Beach, which is right on the border.
I almost hit a man and a woman running across the runway one night many, many years ago. We were doing run on landing at 70 knots on the main runway and would have hit them if we had been in a fixed wing aircraft. My copilot saw them first and yelled "pull", so I did. I saw them pass below through my chin bubble. We called it a night.
