No help here, I really want a 928 myself.

Only time you should talk a man out of one is if it is rough shape- then that is an act of mercy.

onewhippedpuppy 06-03-2017 02:44 PM

If it's in good shape you could drive it for a while, and if you don't like it you could probably make a few grand. Pretty tough to say no to that.

What year?

pwd72s 06-03-2017 04:11 PM

For only $5K you could always simply abandon it once it dies.

LEAKYSEALS951 06-03-2017 04:23 PM

While you are pedaling 200 miles next week cold turkey b/c you've been so busy with everything else :) , you can ponder if the 928 is a good decision. Don't get spread too thin with all your new projects!

It's all fun and games until you have to start chasing electrical gremlins, etc.... but then again at $5k, have fun!!!!

I've had nine 928's. They are a great car. They have their issues like all Porsches but most are easily remedied. Rennlist has the most active 928 forum on the planet with some of the most knowledgeable 928 guys on the planet.

crustychief 06-03-2017 07:01 PM

I love mine. It is more complicated than my SC but very easy to work on. I would be interested in the year as well. Mine is an interference motor it is an 87. I think 85 and older they were not interference motors.

rattlsnak 06-03-2017 07:39 PM

They have recently perked my interest as well. There are several here locally on CL in the $4-7K range..

RKDinOKC 06-03-2017 07:48 PM

Really like the 94 GTS I have now...but it is no where near a $5K car.

I've heard some of those $5K 928s are just $10K from being worth $10K. Just be sure to have a PPI done with a very knowledgeable 928 guy. Not just a Porsche mechanic.

THIS... A brand new Hyundai would depreciate more in the first 6 months of ownership.

Just buy it and drive it for real. ;)

Depends
Auto, standard?
Year? Motor? Eu, or US market car?

Value greatly depends on transmission, year (16 valve vs 32), and condition.

RKDinOKC 06-04-2017 12:15 AM

Oh yeah, if a 928 is in good enough condition to be a daily driver, the 928 seems to respond well to that sort of treatment. Some owners don't like the 5 speed in daily driving traffic. Personally I enjoy running it up thru the gears.

Go to rennlist and read the New Visitor thread on the forum there if you have never owned a 928 before. And by all means drive one to make sure you will enjoy the 928 experience.

Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it

.........but make sure you know a good auto-electrician.

rattlsnak 06-04-2017 07:02 AM

here are 4 cheaper ones I found on CL today...

Pick them apart please...

That last one is a good find. Good place for negotiations

Brando 06-04-2017 08:34 AM

Damn... Now I want a 928 (again). I vote do it. For $5k if it dies you can recoup that selling it as a parts car.

bbturbo 06-04-2017 08:36 AM

I second that last listing from rattlsnak, seems like it could be a good purchase, especially since it's a 5-speed. If I was in the market, I would look into it. I love 928s and will have one someday, so I second your thoughts in looking into one.

RKDinOKC 06-04-2017 01:17 PM

Think that brown 87 listed kinda misses the point of a 928 with it's roll cage and racing seats. Especially if wanted for a daily driver.

rattlsnak 06-04-2017 01:41 PM

The matte black one for $1,600 looks like a good place to start!
