PCA DE at Road Atlanta today
Since I'm working in Atlanta, I thought I'd stop by Road Atlanta today for the PCA DE. It's been a few years since I've been here.
All I can say is, where is everyone? It's dead here. I counted 5 air cooled 911's, 6-7 944's and the rest are mostly late model 911's, Cayman, and Boxsters and other makes. Maybe 40-50 cars. When I was tracking my 930, tracks at Road Atlanta and VIR were packed. Every run group filled with wait lists. I thought with the economy improving, it would be back to normal. Have Porsche owners lost interest in track days? Has everyone lost interest in track days? Last edited by A930Rocket; 06-10-2017 at 03:56 PM.. |

Me and some buddies are participating and attendance does seem off for the first DE of the year with PCA. 92 folks registered and two years ago there were 125 registered for the same event. I don't know if there is just less interest in motorsports or if their competitors like Just Track It and Chin are chipping away their customer base.
In any case we had a great time out today!

I went by RA on the way out of town a couple of weeks ago and saw Chin was there. Didn't go in though.
Track days are the best. My friends and I always had a good time. I miss the dip at RA. |

Perhaps a combination of factors? One might be the aging of PCA membership.

I've been vintage racing since 2008, a few years of DE's prior. I've taught at local DE's in Spokane for a few years. Our race car counts in the PNW are way down from ten years ago. Some of it is the big money guys running at bigger/more elite events, some of it might be lingering effects of the recession. Some of it is vintage cars climbing so much in value, folks are taking them off the track. The last bit is an aging population. How many 16 year olds do you know who run out and get their license on their birthday like I'm sure most of us did.....
