Home Security - Motion Sensor Troubles

I installed a DIY security system a few months ago. I've turned it on a few times when we were out of the house for a few hours and it worked fine.

I put the motion sensor in the 2-story foyer about 9' off the ground floor. It is in the corner of the room facing the stairs/upper floor at a 45º angle. My reasoning is that this would detect people on the first or second floors.

This past week we were out of town for a week. At least once a day (and usually 3-4 times a day) the motion sensor would set off the alarm, I assume from the 10 lb. cat changing floors or going from one side of the 2nd floor to the other.

Any advice on where I can position the motion sensor so the cat does not set it off?

ADT put our motion sensor high up in the hallway to avoid the cat setting it off. So far, so good.

Re. light control - we had a "motion" sensor installed to control outside lights on our vacation rental. The plan was....Day time - always off, Night Time - comes on for ? 5 minutes when detects "motion". The problem we had was the lights were rapidly going on and off at night. We started with LED bulbs and went to "normal" resistance bulbs but all is still not well. I can't get a good description of what is going on because I'm not understanding what my wife is saying the neighbor said. I read that some light motion controllers may not be compatible with LED bulbs or some LED bulbs. Investigation is continuing.
