Where is your downspount going to drain?

I just finished a deck. I put in a 20' long, 3' deep french drain, and used a hole saw to make a nice neat hole for the downspout to go through the deck into the drain.

You got it. Luckily I can easily remove the board it has to pass through and clear a path. I wanted to do it before I screwed it down but oh well.

I used TimberTek the Tropical collection in Antique Palm last fall. I am very happy with how it came out.

12" OC

The deck is pretty large and I can take some pictures if you would like.

Please post a picture if you can.

The price difference between pine and Tigerwood is about $1600; about $1,500 for pine, about $3,100 for Tigerwood. Composite or PVC was fairly close in price to Tigerwood.

Thanks

Mike

The landscape designer is recommending Azek or Timbertech. Any comments on pros/cons for those two will be appreciated. For lighting he is recommending FX brand.

I got my Tigerwood from Advantage Lumber online. It was half the price of composite.

Not sure if composite is more expensive in the mid-Atlantic or not but the quotes I've received for a mid grade composite have been about $70 for a 16' board compared to $60 for a 16' board of Tigerwood (both 5/4" x 6").

How has the Tigerwood held up and what type of annual maintenance is required?

I've only had it in 3 months and so far it has held up ok. Looks great but some of the gaps have grown. Price you pay working with wood I guess. I see more imperfections since I did the work, I get compliments so it must not be as flawed as I think.

Also, I did 1x6 Tigerwood on 16" centers and it is more than enough. Doesn't move or flex or bounce an inch. I have a piece of 5/4 I used to test and I could have done 24" centers no problem. Tigerwood, as with most SA hardwoods, is crazy dense. Can be brittle so pre drill, especially near the ends.

Thanks. My deck is 12" on center so I thought about going with 3/4", instead of 5/4"....once it's down, I don;t know that I would notice. I've done flooring using Jatoba so i know what you mean about the wood being dense

One piece of advice I learned. If I had to do it over, I would face screw. I love the hidden fastener look but the Camo tool I used, the screws are, IMO, a bit too small and weak for hardwood. If you do the angled fastener, get the longer screws no matter what.
