One Year With a Serial Killer
I've had my 2016 Mustang a year now.
At 1800 miles, it started giving me warnings to change the oil soon. At 1825 miles, it started to run a little rough and get a little jerky. I changed the oil at 1850 miles and all is good now. That seems like a pretty short oil change interval, but it does use oil pressure to open the valves further/longer for the variable valve timing, so maybe that has something to do with it. The act of changing the oil itself reminded me a lot of changing the oil on my 944s (that's plural, though one was a 944S). The oil drain plug takes a 15mm socket. I thought it was a nice touch that it is to the rear of the oil pan, so it drains well when jacked up. It apparently takes 8 quarts of oil. Getting to the oil filter is a little tricky, and I had to remove some underbody panels to get to it. It took me about 2 hours the first time, but that was because I had to look up where the oil filter was online, run out for more oil (I bought 5 quarts), and figure out which tools fit which fittings (oil filter, oil drain plug, underbody panel bolts, etc.). Next time ti should take about 30 minutes. :) |

It's a fun drive. It can go from a docile commuter to a beast in the stab of the throttle. It is comfortable and easy to drive. The pedal-spacing is excellent for some heal/toe action. Compared to my 944s and RX8, it is obviously heavier and has more mass at the front, but it is still very easy to control in corners.
Other than a surprisingly early oil change, it has required zero other work so far. I stored it for the winter under a cover and with a battery tender (in the garage) and it fired right up. It's kind of amazing to me how much fun it is to drive for a cheap car made out of stamped sheet steel. |
I have been driving a nice triple black 2004 Mustang GT convertible for a full year now, I only had to tune it up, and chnge front brakes in the time.....not bad for a $2500 car, that still looks, and runs kickazz. My next one will be a Coyote motored Stang.

I believe you can program your oil change reminder to any mileage up to 7500. It might be expeditious to hire a neighborhood 12 year old to accomplish the task. Worked for me. |
I recently bought a very clean 2004 Chevy Silverado with fairly low miles. You can get a lot of sludge in a car that is only run short distances, and this truck's engine was sludged up, even though I am sure it got regular oil changes per the dash warnings.
I'd use an oil like this, if I was running a modern performance engine. Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40. It will exceed all specs for your car and keep things nice and clean in there. My WRX has little screens in the oiling system. People have problems with those if the oil gets too dirty or sludgy. V V T needs clean oil. |
It likes to be revved up at car shows to run its best.

Tip: Don't go a heavier grade than suggested. Maybe doesn't hold true with the 5.0, but with the 4.6 some have experienced problems moving up to 5-30 over the suggested 5-20.

I don't do American cars but I would definitely rock a new Mustang.

Thanks, I'd never seen that. Doesn't surprise me that Germans like the new Mustang. We have European owners who post on the Bullitt Mustang board. It's weird, but over there, Mustangs are considered kind of exotic. They do grab attention, and one poster swears it's the best "crumpet collector" car he has...over his BMW M3 and his Carrera GT.
Here, my '09 Mustang doesn't get a second glance..which I like. Over there, they are "look at me" cars. Hey, whatever gets me to the pool hall... (edit) Not completely true about never a second glance...I have been approached by some people, always friendly. Often other Mustang folks who know of the Bullitt models. Sometimes non Mustang owners curious about the special dark highland green color... |
