1966 Mustang GT Possible Wheel Change

Old Fastback has been on vintage Ansens for a while. Found a set of period correct unique vintage wire wheels. Haven't seen a Fastback on vintage wires. Any thoughts? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1497670180.jpg

I have some 16x9 Torque Thrusts in the back of my 66 coupe. Then the project stalled
and it's still on the lift in my garage...

I would not change the wheels on that car, it looks great.
Wire wheels on a convertible maybe.

What would McQueen do?

Wire wheels are perfect on British roadsters.

The Mustang looks great as is.

This times ten thousand.

go the other way--deeper into the T/A restomod abyss. Maier, Street or Track...;)

No to the wires.

Yes to Cragar SS, Torque Thrust, or factory styled steel.

In the 90's I had a 65 poppy red k code fastback with the factory styled steel.

No.

icemann427 06-17-2017 08:17 AM

Mine with 17's...No to the wires.

Yes to Cragar SS,

These were the default hot rod wheel in SoCal back in the 70's-80's

Was that a regional thing?

We did go through a centerline phase but that passed. ;)

Another no vote on the wires. Looks great just the way it is. The early fastback..the best looking Mustang body.

Iceman..gorgeous! Love the blue.

They're an old set of 15x7.5 Borrani, a pr of spares, sided hubs, knock offs, lugs, wrench & hammer. Thought it might add a nice touch.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1497721360.jpg

I can see why you're tempted, but do you really want the hassles of wires?

Chino 06-17-2017 10:10 AM

My favorite wheel design and figured it could work. I suppose cleaning them would be an extra hassle. Spoke with Wire Wheel King about finishing them in silver.

Those pics aren't fair! I mean, a GT40 would look cool even running painted steel wheels with baby moon hubcaps. ;)

Chino 06-17-2017 10:34 AM

You're absolutely right but at least they're Ford related, I held back from posting vintage Ferrari pics.

pavulon 06-17-2017 10:40 AM

The GT40 and Cobra wheels are all center mount/fastened. That may be worth some novelty points but that falls off sharp if they are 5 bolt mounted.

Hard to say, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't ask what would someone else do.

I personally love your car as is, but I say let it rip. It's only money and completely reversible.

Old ads & info, on current wheels. Fortunately I'm able to find old stuff locally.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1497725008.jpg
