Blood thinners, ain't they great

All this from the tinniest possible scratch, me walking around in public looking like I'd been shot.

Young healthy men, count your blessings.

Damn! Unfortunately, I can say that I know exactly how you feel.

I'm with you, brothers.

It's caused me to ride my motorcycle less. I can't even imagine what a bloody mess even a very minor get-off would be.

Hell, when I was on Coumadin after my PE clots my wife bought me an electric razor and cut my food for me.

23 years later, I still use an electric shaver, but cut my own food.

My business partner is on them. Every Monday morning she gives me a "bruise count" of how many bruises she has from the weekend.

A guy at church on these fell off his porch, died almost immediately from internal bleeding.

Be careful.

Sounds like she's having more "exciting" weekends than me!

At a woodworking meeting last Monday night - one of the presenters handed out elastic straps to some of the senior members of the audience that were on blood thinners. He explained that a "minor" injury could become life threatening, so offered the straps out for use as tourniquets.

Coumedin is really nasty (that it came from rat poison aught to be a clue). As I recall it's only advantage is that vitamin K can stop the bleeding if you have time, and some of the new ones (Xarelro being one) don't have that feature.

I used to hate the every 2 weeks testing to check on the levels in the blood which is critical.

The doc got me off after 2 stomach bleeds that almost killed me. He had me on Plavix and then he got the afib to stop (that's a whole other story) and the heart resumed its normal beat.

my doc had me on aspirin - I got a nose bleed at work and it wouldn't stop, went to the first aid place at work and they got it stopped. Now my doc says aspirin is not worth the risk for what it does and took me off of it.

That's what I'm on, 81 mg baby aspirin, once a day. Up here, they also use warfarin (rat Poison), I would refuse that!

I thought the 81 mg. aspirin was a pretty common thing, especially for older folks. My doctor said, "You are taking one each day, aren't you?" in a matter of fact way. I've been taking them daily for decades without any problems. I get skin tears easily because of the fact my skin is old and thin, but don't have any trouble with clotting. I'm sort of surprised some people seem to be having problems with baby aspirin.

My Dad is 94, and has to be careful of what he eats, so as not to upset the potency of his blood thinner. OTOH, his dad died at 58.

Keep having fun and posting pictures. It is worth it if you are having fun. A ship is always safe at harbor, but that is not what ships are made for.

Is that the only thing you take? I've been on it for the last 10 years but did not encounter any bleeding pattern changes (from before/after) from day to day cuts/scratches.

I was on Warfarin (when this happen: What did your 911 do to you today ?) until they figure out the blockage was self induced...

I take 3 other pills for various things, don't know what they are. My wife is a Doc , so I run things by her to make sure.

I was on Coumadin for a year when I had a DVT.
ER doc told me if i l fell and hit my head at work (dangerous wet, slippery floors) to call 911 first before notifying my supervisor.
Apparently high risk of cranial bleeding on that stuff.
Glad I'm off them.
Not to mention every minuscule nick or cut took 2 weeks to heal.
