How do you deal with minor accidents on your valuable cars?

decided to just report to insurance, get the car fax and drive the hell out of it. I aint sellin it! it's a 20 year old car, it won't matter if its documented and done correctly. It's going to a porsche collision center and reputable air-cooled mechanic.

thanks for all the valuable input!

If the cops showed up then it is probably already documented.

No police report. No insurance claim so far. Just two Porsche collision center prelim quotes.

I'd worry more about getting the car fixed right and documenting the repairs being done right more than being dinged with a carfax hit. The car is going to retain its value if the hit is as minor as you say and it's meticulously repaired.

An honest seller with the appropriate documentation is more valuable (IMO) than a clean carfax accident history. They're all old cars now, they're mostly going to have something.

I'd just be sure to have good photo documentation of the affected areas and the repair. I'd imagine most folks would prefer to know the actual truth of the stuation. Also, if you think the accident would feminist the value of the car, the insurance do panties often account for deminishment of value due to an accident repair (so I've been led to believe).

Can you clarify what you mean here? I am not sure I understand.

Focus on getting repaired to your standard and document it as others suggest. Car fax or no Carfax, how would you answer a potential buyer's question: "so, has the car ever been involved in any type of accident?"

The point being is that the cat will get out. Either the future buyer will be able to wrap their head around the minor accident or they won't in which case you'll find a new buyer.

Not sure where you are, but it's warm in New York. I'd want that car back on the road! Good luck and I hope you are satisfied with the repair.

Was this the teenager's fault?

Okay, so assuming that, the teenager's family should consider paying cash as well to avoid a blemish on their car's Carfax AND a chargeable accident which will increase the family's insurance premium. But then they would have to pay cash for their own car, too. How much is their deductible? Maybe the total damage won't exceed it too much. You could take less than $1,800 to help the deal along. Getting money for diminished value is difficult, I hear.

I have a 944 that has some front end damage to it. Self inflicted on my part. I have $1,000 to 2,000 to repair it I chose a shop that is a certified Porsche repair shop They will do it right The cost is out of my pocket My car is over 30 years old and I don't care what on the Carfax I want the job done right The only panel that needed work was the nose panel No other body damage. I was lucky.

I'd pay the $1800 myself. Certainly not worth the increased premiums the ins co will happily hit you with.

If you were hit, have them pay for it, either by cash or their insurance! Make sure the accident is well documented. When we had our 1987 930, I was hit in the right rear by a driver who had been drinking. He got real upset I wanted the police and he didn't want to give me his insurance info, etc. Finally got it all thank goodness as he dented the wheel well, hit the Fuchs wheel so it needed replacement, $1000 Michelin tire damaged and bent the suspension arm. That arm cost more than his whole car did as they shop had to buy a new one from Germany!!!!

If the cops actually showed up, then you are living in a good place where cops do their job and actually care.
Be thankful.

I was once nailed from behind by a semi on the SF/Oakland bay bridge, driver from mexico and was trying to fight me in traffic, company based out of LA but had a fictitious bay area address.
(there should have been a hundred cameras watching)
I tried to get a police report the next day on both sides of the bay, but neither PD department was interested.

I'd say report it, and let the chips fall where they fall.
