Sony OLED 4K TV

I'm looking for a TV. This Sony is interesting to me. So, google returns some results with prices. I anticipated some differences but Amazon, BestBuy, Crutchfield are double the TV superstore. I'll allow that I'm not familiar with the TV superstore but... . Any insight into how this can be?

So what is the terrible thing that could happen if he buys it from the cheap place? I mean, you pay w a cc, file a dispute if anything goes wrong...how can you lose?

FWIW, every one of those new HD led TVs I've seen has an absolutely horrible picture, everything looks photoshopped onto a BG. Very strange. I'll stick w my Panasonic plasma.

Lots of complaints for this place and some others.

I was considering them for buying a projector. They had it for 20-25% less where no other place was selling for less than list. I started to read reviews and BBB complaints and it became clear what the tactics were.

You place the order and then you basically hear nothing back. You call and they tell you that there isn't any coverage on the unit you ordered. They start adding up charges and then end up moving you to some other unit. In the end I decided I didn't want to deal with it.

At this point in time and technology, while 4K is sharp the trend is towards streaming content. And right now the most accessible sources are 720. There are quite a few 1080, but not so many 4K. But the majority is still 720. Any many are the 720 content served at 1080 or 4K as well.

For my money I would drop to 1080 and get something bigger for the same or less monies.

I do have a 65" 1080 Sony Bravia, and everyone says the picture looks a lot better than theirs when watching content from the same source.

Unless you game. The 4k is hard to justify. But with that said, 4k is utterly amazing...

My 2016 Samsung 65" 4k something or another spends it's entire time in 1080 with all the media sources.

With that said, I will never buy a glitchy ass Samsung ever again. Most notably buggy volume levels between HDMI sources and smart TV sources (Smart TV volume 1/2 of what HDMI does) also, basically the controls are broken trying to interface a Samsung Sound bar with a Samsung TV. Erratic and doesn't work as advertised.

I gave up, turned off Smart TV functions- ran them off my XBOX (HDMI so no volume jankiness) and manually turn off and on the Samsung Sound bar with a separate remote.

Samsung TV has popups for their Samsung network going down- as if that matters LOL.

He'd almost certainly not get what he ordered.

They appear to be nothing more than a bait n switch shop.

Why bother if you already know what you're in for.

And yeah, I hate the picture, I describe it as everything looks like a daytime soap.

There is usually a mode that corrects it but why it never appears to be the default is baffling.

Sounds like you and Denis like slow refresh rates. Movies have been 24 fps for a very long time. Amazingly, Sony's Motionflow will interpolate and extrapolate 9 frames (between two movie frames) and output 240 fps.

Yeah, I get it; movies shouldn't look like real life. They need to be clicky frames, and btw get off my lawn...

I had a look at my brother's 4k curved screen yesterday.

Super sharp picture for old blurry eyes, and super high contrast for people that cannot appreciate subtleties.

It did better on animation, really gave it pop and snap.

I suspect it would be good for gamers.

Your Photoshop comment is spot on now that I think about it.

I'm not sure what they are doing in the stores to sell these things, but the displays there are much more convincing.

Knowing my brother, he got the cheapest one.

I'll keep my Panasonic Plasma as well.

OLED makes all other TVs look broken.

I have an LG 55" OLED
My old plasma TV is stashed behind the couch until I get around to throwing it away. The OLED is that good.
It is NOT just another 4K TV

I don't know which ones I've watched at other people's houses and I don't have Island's tech knowledge but I can tell you that I'd be happy if they looked like real life. The ones I'm complaining about had a picture that looked sort of *digital* and just weird. Everything looked like it was in front of a blue screen. Like a bad faked moon landing.

I don't play video games or watch animation, more of a film/tv person. Now, it's possible that the new TVs you guys are talking about are much better than the ones I'm referring to. One of my buddies has a HD projector that is just out of this world. Super jealous of his picture. He has the wall painted w the special movie screen paint and the picture is huge and the best I've ever seen in a house. He only spent about $1200 for it too, if not mistaken.

I do know that the cutting edge of digital film photography is all about smoothing the edges, that's probably what the 240 fps is about. Making it look more like film.

it's true all the modern TV's are just harsh and offensive. I think that type of bite sells. i generally turn colors down, and keep it sharp. YOu get used to it after awhile.
