I'm not a big whisky or whiskey drinker. My son brought over a bottle of bourbon that he was given for Christmas tonight. We needed some for egg nog and he had been given 2 bottles for Christmas. I was curious, so I tried the stuff with a little water. Wow, I could definitely see drinking this stuff. Other than an initial heat (it comes cask strength, so ours was 131.9°), it was actually very smooth and very tasty. It smells wonderful, but there's an almost fruity/sweet-spice scent, and the finish is almost the same as the aroma.

Basically, I thought it was very tasty.

"Other than an initial heat ..."

I was informed at a distillery tour that that is called a 'Kentucky Hug' :)

Did the Jim Beam tour over the weekend. Tour itself was just OK. Sampled the Bookers, Bakers, and Basil Hayden, all of which I've had before. Picked up a bottle of Knob Creek Single Barrel.

Not sure how this factors in with this thread, or if this stuff is even any good, but Neil Geraldo, husband and lead guitarist to Pat Benatar is in work producing a line of bourbon. Might be worth a taste...

man..i LOVE her. and not because of the barrel of booze she owns. :)

Mine doesn't come in a fancy bottle with a fancy label or a cool name. I recently learned that the person who makes it isn't doing well and this will probably be my last bottle :(

Ohhh geezus....most likely it the gentle swaying of the boat that the stuff is on that causes it to slosh around inside of the barrel. Then you have to look at temp differentials of heatng and cooling of the barrel.

But this is getting ridiculous.

Also everybody is jumping on the band wagon and becoming a micro distiller....

No wonder it was easy goin down it is 80 proof water...

Lets try some 100 to 125 proof likker...that's real man hoary.

I was drinkin Old Weller 107 back in the early 90's when nobody was drinking bourbons. Used to get it at Trader Joe's for $8 in a gift pack...

Now try and find the stuff..

I like the stuff that Stagg/Buffalo Trace Distillery makes..

Just bought a nice bottle of Blantons Single Barrel..comes in at 92 proof.

I want to find a bottle of Buffalo Trace White Dog that comes in at 125 proof...Along with the Wellers.

In the late 60's I used to drink Beam, and Old Taylor.

I don't care much for the Beam anymore....

Old Grandad 114 has that Beam taste to it...and at the price is hard to pass buy when it compares to Knob Creek.

OGD 114 has been rumored to be discontinued in the past.. a lot of bang for the buck.

I have had some good bourbon but I'd put the stuff my friend's dad and his friend make up against most. Just two good ol' Kentucky boys havin some fun. I just wish I could talk my friend's dad into teaching me how to make what they make.

A better view of the rickhouse collapse in Bardstown. As with many building collapses, repairs were being made at the time of the collapse. 9,000 barrels down. Although I'll bet they will salvage many and market them as some sort of special 'Collapse Edition'

I like white dog corn whiskey. After looking on line it ain't hard to run some shine like my ole Grand pappy used to back in the 20's. Coming up with a distinctive mash Bill would be the trick, and using a copper pot still.

For me it ain't worth the trouble cause I don't drink enough .
