Father Son Dirtbike Project

Wanted to get the young 'un to be able to use hand tools and know his way around machines so late last year we picked up a '70 Yamaha AT1 enduro to fix up. Six months later here is the result and a proud 11 year old. Apart from the vapor blasting and playing it's all him with a little help from Dad. It's a rewarding experience if you've not been through the process with your offspring.

Nice job!!

I've tried this over the years with my son, (he's 24 now) and he just has zero interest in anything mechanical. He subscribes to the "My dad can fix whatever is broken so I don't have to learn' theory.

NICE work there...on both your son and the cycle!

Did you buy him a Craftsman tool set? The complete set with all three drives...1/4", 3/8", and 1/2"....plus all the other "stuff"?

I was lucky to have my Dad teach me the ropes: motor rebuilds, welding, paint, etc. he came from the Fix-it generation. I thought it was my duty to pass it on and fortunately he is into it. We hit the dirt trails here in SoCal so I think he could join the dots. Next project is a Norton Commando!

Love it. I am building a clone fender jaguar with my 15 yr old son. Good times. Maybe Great times. And then there is the rolling ball sculpture I need to continue with my 12 yr old daughter.

Nice project!

He will be a HERO at school. His own motorbike at his age. And he knows his way around it.

I love Yamaha's of that vintage. My Dad bought me a 1972 90cc as my 2nd bike....loved that bike.

Well done to you and your son!

That's a good job! I'm sure he's quite proud. My 14 year old wrenches on his dirt bike & bicycles.
