996 PPI in Sunnyvale CA? Anyone Local?
I was hoping to do a deal with Cashflyer on his 996, but I don't think his car is right for me.
Option #2 is a car Sunnyvale. Anyone know of a decent P-car mechanic there? The seller has suggested a couple of places: BR Racing in Los Gatos BTM Motorwerks in Campbell Real Mean Garage in Sunnyvale Heyer Performance in Mountain View If anyone can recommend a shop I would appreciate it. If anyone is local and could drive the car for me I will send you a few bucks... https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/6193110.html |
I think RMG services my brother's 993. His house is about 2 miles from that 996, on the other side of the freeway.
|
If he can do a test drive I can send him a Pelican gift certificate, or something similar.

+1 for RMG. They take care of my G50 911.
But if you just want a test drive, I'm always up for an excuse to drive another 911. I work in Sunnyvale and will be there in a bit. Can check it out after between 2PM and 5PM. PM me. |
+1 for RMG (Real Mean Garage). I was recommended to them by this place and they're awesome.

Sent you an email... Good luck!

Shout out to wildthing for helping me out.
On to step two. If anyone wants to drive it to Michigan let me know (assuming I can close the deal). |
Road Trip!
That would be fun and I wish I could do that for you... I have been considering a C4 or C4S, would it be a dick move if I jumped in and scooped this car? ;) Kidding of course..... Looks nice in the photos. |
It would be a dick move, but not everyone here would see it that way...

Get a proper PPI best money you will spend.
I have a 996 engine on the bench 100,000km on clock, ran fine when sold, in under 1000km thrust was shot...full rebuild, you don't want to know the price tag. |

Good luck with it. |

Admittedly this is my first 996 drive, and so I can only compare it to my 88 911 and a 993 tip I test drove 4 years ago.
Everything written about it is true. Very modern. A/C is not an afterthought. Light steering. Drives like a regular sedan when on normal speeds. Very quiet. Pulls hard on high RPM, but still relatively quiet. I'm sure a less restrictive muffler might help with the sound. I do feel the potholes less, maybe the suspension is less stiff or his tires absorb them well. Lots of buttons and knobs, even compared to my A3. Good luck! Should be a good driver. |
Cashflyer had some loud bits for his 996, maybe he can sell them to me....
|
Get a Fister mod for the muffler.
|
I can do that mod myself...if I get the car.

Had planned to ride my motorcycle to Milwaukee. But, I'd do this and be paying for my own hotels either way.......( I come with a long list of drving certificates)... |
Thanks for all the offers guys. I thought I had a deal with the seller, but last night someone showed up with cash and bought the car from under me.
I was wary of making a deposit with a stranger and that cost me the car. In the end I might be better off, it was a logistical struggle for me, I have new job and I really don't have time for holidays, I won't piss and moan about the seller, he took the firm higher offer, so be it. Dick move? I say no. If nothing else I've been reminded that there are some really awesome guys here who will step up to help their fellow Pelicans. |
