Coveralls or "working-on-car" clothes?

Just curious to see how many people wear coveralls versus dedicated "working-on-car" clothes when wrenching. Or, do you simply wear your "normal" clothes and just try to be extra careful?

All three, depends on what I'm doing or more likely what I thought I was going to do when I went into the garage.

I had that same problem before as well. I used to wear pink taffeta dresses when one time it got caught and ripped off.

Eric....didn't you take a photo of me at the Engine Drop Party?
I was wearing my spiffy overalls with the Porsche crest sewn on.
Made me look like a Factory Technician from the Fatherland, ja?

Porsche Crest Ja, Doktor Zielke!

You mean this one Doug?

Or, was it this one?

Did you ever get a copy of all of the "engine drop" pics? If not, email me your address, and I will send you a CD of all the (full size) pics taken that day.

Levi's and T-shirt, on the clean side, is my favored battle gear, but I do have a quirk that I wonder if I share with anyone......
Before I start any work on my cars, I must absolutely feel clean. If its a Saturday morning, and I've rolled out of bed feeling a little greasy or smelly from the night before, I gotta take a shower before I can feel comfortable and competent wrenching around on my back in the driveway. No telling what my wife makes of this, especially when she brings out a lunch-time sandwich and I'll eat it with whichever hand isn't holding a grimey ratchet!

That's totally funny, Ed. I don't know how many times I've done that. As far as the question goes, I agree with "all three." If I'm at a junk yard, I mostly throw my clothes from working there away. On the complete other side, if I'm assembling, I'm in a polo shirt and shorts or jeans. Body work and painting get the coveralls.

I have found, the best way to end up with lots of "working-on-car" clothes by simply wear my "normal" clothes . . . .and just being "extra careful."

Jared: by leiderhosen, do you mean those red long underwears with the trap door in the back?

Jared:
Thanks for the clarification. Now I've got TWO images burning in my mind! (I now remember what Lederhosen is...)

Personally, I think you're better off with the red long-underwear.

Well, if I'm working on German cars, you gotta do it the right way.
