Getting art appraised online? artprice.com?
Our storage unit was broken into and we had two pieces of art stolen. Insurance company came back with some replacement estimates, but I would like to confirm that their pricing is fair.
I see that artprice.com will allow you to search past auctions and will appraise your art online. Does anyone have experience with that site or have another I should try? Thanks, Neil |
Why not just ask Tabby, our resident expert?

Funny man, I was thinking the same thing.

There are quite a few web sites that report Auction results. Auction results are basically the line in the sand of what a piece is worth. There is Gallery pricing which is retail and is quite high.
You do your comparison by medium...oil, wc, pastel etc. Size of piece and then genre if the artists sea scapes go for bank his still lifes will not command the same dinero. Or if he does landscape painting in his local area his French city scenes will not pull the same money. Also if the artist's works for modernism go for bank his abstract expressionism might not go for the same dinero. So it has to be apple to apples and oranges to oranges as far as genre goes. It really is pretty cut and dry. |
