just effen around..i went vegan. hahah

trying to walk a mile in someone elses shoes i guess. try it before bowhunting season begins

i'm a decent home cook. the main catalyst was me shooting my mouth off saying vegan cooking seems easy. i have to admit..it has been a blast! for example - taking the animal out of my boracho beans. making something taste great without any animal product hasnt been easy. but it has been fun.

last night was a mushroom ragu, over polenta. seriously..polenta is made for butter and some parm cheese. (i used soy sauce instead of salt to add umami).

last night. smashed white bean tostadas with mexican rice and pico.

i've damn near mastered BABA GANOOSH,, we eat it over real bread topped with greens.

you know what? i've been physically fuller feeling since starting. i'm stuffed!! i think the fiber gives us that stuffed feeling. no? i wont talk about other "biological functions", but my system has had difficulty adjusting.

my wife already claimed her cheat..tomorrow. korean BBQ!! i have to cook it for a party. i'll stay the course and make myself a veggie korean Bi Bim Bap. (you can google it)

it isnt about the weight loss..i wont mention it here. but i am shocked.

my B-day is coming up..one word. CHEESEBURGER. i'll tap out then. (i think)

The vegetarian meals can certainly be more interesting and complex without the crutch of depending on a meat.

If you haven't, you should watch the "Chef's Table" season 3 episode on Jeong Kwan, the Korean Buddhist nun. You won't really learn any recipes from it, but it will be inspiring.

meat, milk, cream, cheese, butter, eggs, fish, etc... assuming he's going "Vegan". Vegan's normally ditch anything that has anything to do with animals. I've heard that honey (bees) and even sugar (filtered through bone ash or something like that) are off limits for the hard core vegans.

I think I could pretty easily do vegan (eat, not necessarily cook). I've had some amazing vegetarian Indian and Chinese food. As long as the flavor and umami are there, I'm good.

Eff that. I make my own Tasso - cajun smoked pork shoulder. It goes in beans, kale, squash etc. - You wouldn't touch a vegan anything if you had the choice ...

One thing I have witnessed with friends going on vegan or vegetarian diets is that they tend to load up on carbs and replace high cholesterol with high triglycerides ...

I'd rather die than become vegan. I could do vegetarian but don't see the point, keeping meat consumption relatively low, eating lots of wild game I take myself, low fat and non-processed.

Looks like I'm going to have to move toward vegetarian.
I can no longer eat my tomato based hot dish with beans, onions, celery, artichoke hearts, etc., and ground Turkey....I get bouts of gout, still.
Just that little bit of Turkey sets it off.
Tired of that.......so, a whole new horizon for me.
Bum!!!
Dr. says even chicken can set it off.
Oh well...easier wt. lose, I hope.
.
I've been having Salmon and steamed Broccoli for breakfast lately.

There are different levels of veganism (all of which baffle me). If you truly worship veganism, you have to worry about the fertilizer used on the vegetables, and what supporting ingredients were made with (like the eggs in noodles, and the milk or cream in store bought sauces).

My wife has trouble with grocery store meat, we ended up going to a local butcher, and have had no problems since. I think all the coloring/addatives/tenderizers can really reak havoc on people digestive processes. We process our own free range chickens from our farm....it tastes better, the meat is fresher, and actually harder to pull off the bone because of no tenderizers, and more activity (while alive) than standing in a tight quarters barn all thier lives.

one of our nutrition instructors (for health sciences programs) says "If you want to be vegan or vegetarian, a good way to know if you are eating healthy is to see how many different colors are on your plate. 3 minimum, 5 per meal is best"

From the vegans I know who AREN"T just using fake meat products (fake chicken tenders, etc) as substitutes, this holds true for the most part.

Gout...
NO turkey OR organ meats including meats like liver, sausages, wursts, brats, bologna, hot dogs. etc..
DO eat cherries raw or fixed any way, they help.

Friend had gout problems and the cherries helped a lot. He just couldn't keep from eating head cheese and it would always set him off. Me personally I don't want to eat anything that the prep process starts with letting it sit in a bucket of water on the back porch for 2 days.
