With Windows. the is not really a great idea. Some of the updates that get installed are patches to keep the hackers out. Some like the new big update are just a major pain in the butt for millions. The have the small revisions and patches all the time. Those are important.

After a couple of software updates on the router it was fixed and I could go back to letting it automatically setting the DNS to itself.

The only box in the house that does this is my Win 10 Surface.

I also have several routers and it does the same thing with all of them.

No other device does.

MS changed the patch model this year. The latest style of patches is a rollup of all the security patches released since January. So even if you patch infrequently, you get caught up... At the very least install the latest set to protect yourself from all the ransomware BS that was patched in March KB4012212. No joke, trust me, I work for a hospital and that one sent people scrambling...

No kidding. I work for a Fortune 100 company and the poor IT sod who sits next to me found himself presenting to our CEO about how he and his team of 11 guys were going to roll out emergency patches for 14,000 systems that need to be up 24/7.

Some days I'm glad to be a glorified code monkey.
