Pretty cool rock chip touch-up technique/tool

This is so much better than the "brush" that's included with most small bottles of touchup paint.

I think they have some other paint/touch-up type videos that are probably cool, but this was pretty interesting and what I checked out first.

I would love to have had a job with a metal guy at some point, maybe when I was younger.

I've seen a pro detailer use a syringe with good results.

Pretty cool.

Although, seems a bit tedious/time-consuming on something with lots of road-rash to touch up.
With similar situations in the past I've had pretty good luck with simply cleaning/prepping the area, slopping the paint on, then quickly wiping clean with some DX330 (paint stays in the chip/scratch valleys, but wipes clean everywhere else).
Sometimes it helps to thin the paint out a bit for better capillary action, and/or repeat the process after letting the first/previous "coat" dry.

$6.99 on Amazon but "may take 1-2 months before shipping"
https://www.amazon.com/Fine-Line-Painting-Pen-744369MA/dp/B015TB2WGO/

Or they have another brand that looks the same for $12.26
https://www.amazon.com/Small-Fluid-Writer-Kemper-Tools/dp/B0049P5Z4I/

Or you could probably make something similar with the nozzle used to put air into basketballs.

Or something like this:

Or maybe even a modified fine-point (.3mm) mechanical pencil?

No, I order on Amazon.com but they are now showing shipping on the 7 of Aug.

But now the link I post shows 1-2 months. When I order it showed 6 in stock.

Weird. I pulled up the same link last night when I first posted the thread, and it said the same for me, 1-2 months.

I have been using a flow pen for touch up going on 12 years. Works great for chips that need to be filled/layered.

I buy the fine #92 Loew Cornell pens from Rex Art dot com. Artists supply house out of Florida. About $8.00

Get a couple...if you drop them the stainless orifice can get bent or broken off...

The Dr. Color chip system has its uses too. Better for cars with crazy sand blasted fine chips.

Actually they ship yesterday...

Got to love Amazon, all 4 from the same seller, 3 from Miami and 1 from Baltimore...

If they had shown that I would have take only 3 as the second shipment will cost me $5 pick-up fee but the shipping was free.

masraum 08-04-2017 07:05 AM

Weird. I'm going to blame you for me not being able to order and receive them for 1-2 months, hahahaha.

Why on earth did you order 4?

masraum 08-04-2017 07:07 AM

I just checked, it's still telling me 1-2 months and the price went from $6.99 up to $15.

I've noticed recently that the Amazon prices seem to change oddly, I think Amazon is starting to do the same thing that airlines do to their ticket prices, adjust dynamically based on demand.

I got a few friends so it would be nice X-mas gift.

If I can redirect the delivery of the single one, its your for the price I paid.

Let me know and PM me your address and I'lll try to get it to you.

You are correct. I got a vice "made in Germany" $125 less than what my buddy got it for 2 weeks earlier. The next day it was back to the normal price...

Also, the price are different (and apparently "in stock, ready for delivery") if you are a Prime member.
