Favourite Video Games/videos Suitable for 9 Year Old "CarGuy"
Odd title hoping for some suggestions. My nine year old grandson is having a terrible time shaking a persistent abscess following a perforated appendix and operation. He is back yet again at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto with an IV in his arm and strong antibiotics. Hospitals are never fun but it's particularly difficult to swallow seeing a younster's summer holidays slipping away. So since he is particularly interested in all things Porsche and Muscle Cars, I'm hoping that some of you will have some good car games, videos and web sites that would be suitable for him. English or French.
Thanks in advance. Cheers, Johan

Any version of Forza Horizon would be good. More arcade racer than simulator.

Forza Horizon 3. There's a downloadable Porsche pack you can add on.

Thanks guys. Already done lots of utube so looking for a few alternatives. Forza Horizon with the Porsche pack looks good. Would be nice to have a few iPad based games while in hospital.

Not a car game but minecraft on the Ipad is recommended by my 9 year old boy.
For a car game, Smashy Road is pretty crude looking but Liam enjoys it on Ipad, too. Kind of has an 80s vibe to the graphics... Hope he is feeling better soon!

An oldy but a goody for Porsche only:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need_for_Speed%3A_Porsche_Unleashed. Great graphics for it's time, first-person driving, and a basic arcade feel which makes it easy to drive. Another oldy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT_Legends A little more simulation, huge car selection, and almost all the tracks. (Actually, on second thought....those may be a bit too advanced and challenging for a 9yo. It should be fun not stressful.) Something like fun feedback learning might give him more satisfaction: Sheppard Software: Fun free online learning games and activities for kids. Last edited by john70t; 07-31-2017 at 08:20 AM.. |

In a completely different direction, my 11 year old (and his 13 year old sister) really enjoy Car Mechanic Simulator on STEAM. It's a PC game on top of the STEAM platform which is targeted towards technology education stuff. My kids have been playing the previous version, but 2018 just came out last week. They haven't had a chance to try it yet as we were racing last weekend.
The basic idea is that cars come into a shop and need repairs done. You click on the individual component to replace it. It sounds like 2018 has added performance upgrades and even motor swaps into the equation. I should qualify all that with the fact he has a racing wheel. I think the Forza series is a good suggestion as well. I can't comment much on the tablet other than ours like Hill Climb Racing.

Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed is a great one, it also probably had an influence in me getting a 944.
In Europe it is known as NFS 2000, I am not sure about Canada. It is *very* different from the NFS games that followed after. Most wanted, and its sequels are more about crashing into things than driving. NFS V/PU/2000 is a racing/driving game. |

Everyone is different and I don't disagree. Awesome dad you are.
This sounds like a very sick kid in the hospital, though, and having something that he can "win" and have "fun" at should be the main end game. Just my opinion. |

True, but with GT Legends you can turn on steering help, braking help, throttle help, the car will almost drive itself but you are correct that it isn't for everyone. The Need for Speed series you don't really hurt the car when you crash and are pretty easy as far as learning curve as well as made for controllers like the X-Box. Most Wanted you can just putter around town if you want too.

The realism in Forza is pretty incredible. The best part is the tracks and cars. They have Limerock and a 930! That was enough for me…I mean for my 11 year old son.
