So I looked at other I-net and TV providers....

What a mess this whole internet provider and TV service stuff is! Yesterday I decided to give Cox a call to see what they offer for internet (300MB and max channels) without a contract. If you look at their ads the prices are pretty low but in very small letters they say "with 12 month contract" so I called anyways. We have AT&T 50MB unlimited and I use the hell out of it and also a UVerse package that makes the wife happy and it is less than $180 with no contract so all is well. So I explained to the Cox lady on the phone what I had and how the house was connected with multiple TV sets wired with coax cable and a UHF remote in the bedroom. She kept trying to get me to go with a contract and I also had to tell her 4 or 5 times I'd need a connection to the pole as the wire was removed many years ago. Finally she put the price at about the same as AT&T and free hook up ETC and set the whole thing on HOLD to let me have 2 weeks to look at it.

Late yesterday I started getting emails that my order was in and equipment would be coming for "self install" I called and the young lady said that was not true and my account was being held. Late last evening here came emails from FedEx about 5 packages from Cox to be delivered today! So I logged into FedEx and had the 5 packages changed to be held at a FedEx store! This morning I called Cox and the young man let me explain things and then said politely he would cancel the work order and I could just take the packages back to a Cox store!

I asked how come I had a work order when I had not made up my mind and he could not answer and said I could return the boxes. I said NO they were going to a FedEx store and they could get them! I called the first young lady and told her I decided to cancel or not sign up or whatever it is called due to the way they seem to handle things and it sure seems they don't know what they are doing! She said bye and hung up! I'll stay where I am I guess. Sorry this seems long but........Hell I'm going to the range!

I'm having similar problems with my father's estate and his Comcast contract. At first I was told, no problem we will turn it off. Then there was this fee for early termination that the phone agent had failed to discuss.

No problem, I call back speak with a 'manager' and there termination fee was taken off due to death.

Last weekend I go to the Comcast store front to turn in their crap, remote, router, etc. The early termination fee is back in play. I ask the person at the counter about it and she informs me that she cannot help, they are just there to issue remotes and take them back. Nice.

She then informs me that I am missing a converter box thing for turn in. I ask her what it looks like so that I can then go find it to turn in. She just holds up her hands and makes a box with her fingers and says it is this big. I've been back twice with things that are 'this big' and not taken the right thing. They suck.

Had a similar issue after my father passed.

Due to an ex-wife that intentionally and maliciously had rung up a few hundred K in CC debt in his name he'd had to do a refi on the house.

So I'm paying the mortgage and trying to sell the house.

Since the refi was relatively new it was all interest, the principal was not moving meaning every payment was reducing the payout on the house. So I decide screw it and stop paying it. After a couple of months they'd start getting nasty threatening foreclosure and I'd pay the minimum required to keep them at bay.

Whenever they would call we'd go through the whole, "no you can't speak with him, he's dead and I'm the party legally authorized to speak with you" routine.

Eventually they'd say, "well, this is really going to hurt his credit rating" I'd lol and remind them "trust me. he doesn't care, HE'S DEAD, take your best shot"

Anyway, moral of the story, unless you are somehow legally obligated to assume his debt I'd call them and tell them, "we are done, take your fees and stick em, If you want to continue chasing it here's where you can find him".

Then give them the address and phone number of the cemetery.

You dodged a bullet with Cox, they only get worse after you are their customer. I hate those people with a passion.

And I feel that way about Comcast.

At least Dish treats me like they want me as a customer.

DirecTV - -
.
Bought a "sports package" (beIn Sports Channel) to watch MotoGP at the beginning of this season. After the 1st race, no more beIn signal.
I called and nobody knew what happened...so they reinstated it with a free month. OK.
4 weeks later no beIn Sports...called again. "What happened?"
So they gave be beIn Sports free of charge for 6 months plus HBO and some other channel that I'll never watch.
.
Had a problem with the bedroom Geni Mini box...I called to say that they need to send me another Mini box. They sent out a tech who downloaded/updated the main Geni box in the living room.
A few minutes after he left,I turned on the system and the bedroom Mini box operated in the same malfunctioning manner.
.
Along the way, I noticed a strange charge on my online bill ...called again. I was $7.95/mo. for some insurance to pay for faulty something or other...not the boxes.
I said, "No way, drop that and give me credit for the months that you've been charging me." They did.
I found out that DTV is sneaky about this $7.95/mo. in that when I signed off the Mini box tech they automatically added the $7.95 w/o notice.
A DTV tech who no longer works for DTV told me that the tech gets a kick back for that and that he was supposed to inform me as to my choice.
He was supposed to offer me two different places to sign off.
.
GRRR..........
.
It seems like whenever I call DTV with an issue they offer something free. Fine with me, but I'd rather just have an issue-free service.
I've learned to not call after business hours..........I get some non-English speaking person.

Evidently the trick with cox is to call and ask for customer retention. They offer deals but the lower prices only last 6 months. So call every 6 moths to keep getting the lower bill.

Reps have also told me if there is some event or something I want to see on the subscription services like HBO...to call have it turned on, then call back after watching what I was after and turn it back off. That he does that all the time.

One of these days the services and content producers are going to get smart and have a basic feel that only pays to have the service connected. The everything is pay per view so you aren't paying for a bunch of "channels" you never watch.

Reminds me....when I call DTV and get the initial voice menu, I say, "Terminate service."
They then connect me to that option.
I'm thinking that's why I often get free deals.

One of the funny things that occurred was when the lady asked me how many TV sets I had connected. I said one big (90 inch) one in the main room with a receiver connecting it. There are 7 other sets scattered throughout the house, especially one in the garage, all wired with RG6 coax from a second receiver into a signal booster and splitters. She said to wait a minute and came back later and said they would supply a receiver for each set?????? Theirs can't do that, hummmm. I don't think she knew what a signal booster was!

More likely she was assuming that with your current system each of the 7 sets could simultaneously display a different channel.

Went thru some of this last night with Hughesnet. I have a rental that my daughter lived in for a while. Set up hughesnet. Still have a few months on the contract with a new renter. She says the internet doesn't/t work. Called hughesnet they say its on their end and want me to approve a 125.00 charge for them to come out and fix their crap. I lost it. Told them to fix their stuff and if its inside the house I will pay for it. They waived the fee. Actually said it was a third party charge to them to get someone out. Their cost of doing business. Not mine.
I have direct tv at home and actually have not had a problem.
In the world we live in with Facebook, and everything else it doesn't take much to slam a company and get it in front of a lot of eyeballs. How much business do they have to lose before they give a
S__T. Amazing.
