Where to stay in Taniger, Moracco??
I'll spend 16 days in early October "Driving Miss Daisy" around Spain,Portugal/Andorra. I want to leave the hire car in Gilbraltar, take the ferry and spend 2 nights in Taniger. Mainly to say I've been to Africa. Any recommendations on where to stay would be appreciated. Thax...

I can't say I enjoyed Tangier much. When you get off the boat, prepare to be set upon by people touting their hotels and offering taxi service. Not particularly polite people at that.
I would arrange transport with an excellent hotel. My info is admittedly dated.

We used our resort's cars for transportation to and from the airport last year in Marrakech, and that worked out beautifully. The taxi drivers there are among the worst of the worst when it comes to over charging.
For hotel recommendations, check out Tripadvisor.

When my parents were in Spain and we went to Tangier, Morocco, I think we took the ferry from Tarifa to Tangier. I suppose you could spend 2 days there. I'm not sure I'd want to. I'd try to hook up with a good place that would have transportation and lodging and maybe even some sort of guided tours for the 2 days. You'll get hounded by hawkers trying to sell you souvenirs. I seem to remember that they do have nice leather goods there. I'd be more interested in spending time in Spain and/or Gibraltar based on my limited experience.

Thanks for the great tips. Sound like Mexico(X)2........3 years ago, I spent a night in a Moroccan neighborhood on the West side of Amsterdam, this is no shock....Looking at a place on the water 10 miles out of town with transportation......

I cannot find it right now, but i remember staying at a seaside hotel in Tangier years ago. Literally acros the street from the beach. But I cannot recall the name. I just recall that it was renovated by Malcolm Forbes for his guests for his legendary birthday party bash. I remember the exterior decorations, so I'll see if I can browse through Google maps to see if I can find it.
Browsing through the internet last night, though, Hotel Solazur looked good. I also remember visiting Forbes' toy soldier museum. Hundreds of thousands of toy soldiers set up in dioramas.

Not worth it. Either go to Marrakech and see the beauty of the area, or stay in Spain (Sorry, Gibraltar ;-) IMO... |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQMh13HQEck Looks like I can cut the length of the ferry ride by hopping on in Tarifa, Spain instead of Gibraltar area. (Sorry about the typo of Tangier in the header, can't edit that)

Hahaha, spent my vacation on an off-grid horse ranch in Vejer de la Frontera (between Tarifa and Cadiz) this year, just returned last weekend.
Went to Tarifa for whale-spotting. We did not do Gibraltar due to we would have had to cross a border, would have to pay for it and escape from the apes on that rock. Very many colleagues told me that it is not worth the hassle, nothing to see. Besides, Gibraltar is not the southest point of Spain as many believe. We saw the big fast ferries leaving Tarifa for Tangier, with all the arabic plated luxury cars. No way that I would visit Tangier/Marocco or any of the countries up there. Far to dangerous in my opinion. |
