Generation 2 is supposed to have better quality control. The 9mm is hard to find in stock. The 40mm is on Bud's for 395....

Retail is close to $500. The Sub2k is fun - but if you want to use Glock mags, build the AR.

For $675 I'm going all out on building an AR that takes Glock mags, could get it to basically the same $500 by going with a cheaper standard upper. I really like the left side charging upper with last shot hold open that works for Glock mags is the major extra cost, but I *really* prefer that style vs. traditional AR rear of receiver.

Could go for a slick side upper for $80 vs. the $230ish the side charger w/ lrbho ... and I still might.

** $189 + ffl xfer fee - PSA Glock mag lower, complete - PSA 9mm Billet Complete Classic Lower - uses GlockŪ-style magazines

** $115 Spinta blem bolt - BLEM 9mm Nitride Bolt Carrier Group - Spinta Precision

$245 spartan side charging upper w/ lrbho for glock mags - https://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Spartan_9MM_45ACP_Non_Reciprocating_Side_Charge_Bi _p/jb-9-non-recip-lrbho.htm

** slick side upper - AERO PRECISION AR15 NO FORWARD ASSIST UPPER RECEIVER | MAS Defense

Barrel is tricky.. $75 to $150, I might be able to do local pickup from Daytona Tactical ($75) but I've heard about shipping issues with them... and some forum spamming. Probably go NFA "cheap" at $110.

My son has one. Gen 1 They solved a lot of finish problems with the Gen 2. Interesting carbine that fits in a backpack. Shoots handgun ammo and at a higher fps because of the longer barrel. I was going to pick one up but to sell them up here the barrel length has to be special made and they only do so many a year. I could have bought a pink one but I didn't have anything that matched it.

I have a Sub 2000 Gen 2 9mm Glock 17 version.

Fantastic shooter. Highly recommended. I love mine.

Lots of aftermarket goodies are available as well.

Picked it up on Gunbroker for $465.00.

Kel-Tec's service is great. My Sub is almost 2 years old. Since then K-T has made a handful of improvements to the Gen 2's. If you ship them your gun, they update it with the new parts, go through the whole thing, do anything they feel is needed and ship it back to you for free. Only cost is getting it to them. In my case, $47.20.

Everyone who shoots it hands it back to me with a big smile on their face and some expression like 'that thing is awesome'.

I have the Gen 1 9mm with Glock 17 magazines.

Honestly, one of my least favorite rifle to shoot. I can't get my head low enough to see the sights unless I smash my cheek into the stock. I've been playing with getting rid of it and finding something else in 9mm.

To solve the above mentioned issue, most install a red dot with an AR style riser.
I agree the factory sights are quite low, I never use them.

I use a Holosun dot with MI QD mount.

Holds zero despite removing/ reinstalling it every time I shoot. This is needed to retain the folding feature of the rifle.

I have tried 1 o'clock offset mounts, MI's rotating mount and found the QD Mount to be the best solution.

I have been looking at one of these, how can you differentiate the gen 1 form a gen 2?

I already have a 9mm hand spoon so a 9 carbine would be ideal and that had me looking at the Hi Point 995 as a cheap option.

However a cheap AR clone in 9mm is interesting.

Buddy of mine is a tax stamp collector, I *love* his M16 w/ a 9mm conversion. I'm not an AR fan, but I'm building a 9mm... and just bought a 556 a few weeks ago.

Sure, my 9mm AR won't have a working giggle switch, but the slide fire stocks work, as do teh binary triggers, so I *could* spend a tad more for a bullet hose.... but I'd rather shoot semi and get to play with his FA stuff once in a while.
