I almost killed my dog yesterday
Madison and I like to take a ride around the neighborhood on our golf cart on warm summer evenings. Yesterday was no different, we drove through the 'hood, waving at the neighbors and barking at their dogs. Then I heard a "BANG" and a violent jerk on my hand. Maddie's head jerked down toward the steering wheel. I knew right away what had happened. I stopped the cart and we sat there while I shook with the shock of knowing what had just happened and how close I came to losing her.
The end of her leash had fallen over the side of the cart. The rear wheel ran over it, holding on end in place while the end attached to Maddie and I kept moving with the cart. Fortunately I had the leash wrapped around my wrist and the end had fallen between my legs before going over the side. If it had only been attached to her collar and she had taken the full force it would have broken her neck instantly. She got extra hugs at bedtime last night and again this morning too. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1502643453.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1502643453.jpg Fortunately my hand and leg took a lot of the force of the leash jerking us backward. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1502643453.jpg Mads is none the worse for the experience, but her dad is still pretty shaken. |
Wow...sometimes you dodge a bullet. Glad it didn't become a nightmare. Be safe!

Whew!
|
Indeed, you lucked out. On 2nd thought, your dog lucked out!
|
So glad the pup is OK! It sounds like you need to add a cleat do the cart somewhere that will keep madison from running off and contain her leash so that sort of thing can't happen again.
|
You were very lucky! It sounds like the leash is a long one.

I watched a contractor van ignore my warning last week about a rope hanging off its ladder rack on the roof and flopping in front of the rear wheel...... after his passenger gave me the finger for beeping at him trying to get his attention the rope went under the wheel and ripped 2 ladders off the roof and it looked like the rope wrapped around the rear axle......i had backed off.... kinda wish I had gotten my camera out....
things hanging and moving wheels don't mix. very glad your injury was minor and the pup is fine.....that's a lot of force |

OMG. Pryers of thanks to the heavens. I know that I would have been devastated.
Sweet looking pup, take care of her. |
I feel your angst. I was walking Bosco a few days ago through the park right next to the Port Royal Sound and saw him squatting down on his front legs, as if to play with another dog. The problem was it was a 4 foot alligator right next to the path! No lagoons anywhere...only salt water where gators rarely go. Can't imagine where he came from or where he was going. Scared the heck out of me. I had a hard time sleeping that night.
