Summers over already

It rained last week and you can feel the weather has changed, usually I see it after Labor day but it's a few weeks early this year. It never really got hot around here this summer. I miss the warm weather.

R K T 08-19-2017 04:21 PM

Come out to Palm Desert......107 today. I'm sick of the heat! And we have two more months of it.

JJ 911SC 08-19-2017 04:21 PM

Yeah, last Thursday morning (05:30) it was 50 F when I took the garbage out.

Scott R 08-19-2017 04:38 PM

Does Summer ever really end in Dana Point?

cabmandone 08-19-2017 05:03 PM

The last few weeks have had the feel of fall in NW OH. It has me looking forward to going Salmon fishing up on the big Manistee.

That's it, it just changes, one day it's over. but like I said, usually it's after labor day. We are going down to the harbor tonight and I will be wearing a jacket. damit.

red-beard 08-19-2017 06:18 PM

It was 99 again here today...

jcommin 08-19-2017 06:55 PM

You wait so long for summer and before you know it, it is gone.. Living in Chicago, July 4th is the mid point, everything goes down hill . The further north you go, july 4th is more pivotal. I'm 67 and am looking toward retirement - as much as the warm weather is attractive, I still lie the 4 seasons, May, Sept, Oct and early Nov are my favorite months

JavaBrewer 08-19-2017 07:12 PM

Well the vacation summer is over. School is back in session. The hot summer has legs still. Pretty mild this week (compared to the last one) in San Diego but I remember lots of 90F days all through September and early October.

red-beard 08-19-2017 07:25 PM

Summer starts here in May and goes to November

JacobS911 08-19-2017 07:41 PM

First couple weeks felt that way here in Denver.. not so much today. Hit 95.

BeyGon 08-19-2017 07:45 PM

Went to the harbor tonight, cold and gray.

black_falcon 08-19-2017 09:14 PM

And it's pretty well dark by 8:15-8:30 now. Feels bad mane.

Cooper911SC 08-19-2017 10:03 PM

I'm with you Beygon. 30 miles North (+/-) in Tustin. I can smell the change and have noticed earlier evening dusk.
The chickens are going into the coop a little
sooner each night.

We missed the rain and thunderstorms by a hair two weeks ago. Backed up against the foothills. We got some lightning and thunder but only a few spots.
Definitely been way more humid than normal.

I work from home doing my detailing/restoration and am out in the shop with doors open all day. Funny how you can sense that the weather/season has started to change.

Although it is funny... here in SoCal we hardly have "seasons".

Our older son starts TK next week Wednesday.

Here in the SW corner of the US, things have suddenly cooled off after last week's heat. That doesn't mean we won't be in for our usual hot weather next month into October. We got twice the amount of rain we usually get last winter. I'm hoping we get a wet winter this year too. Seems sort of unpredictable when it comes to the normal weather cycles we've had for so long.

The grass around here is usually all dead looking in Augoust. It looks like spring!

WPOZZZ 08-20-2017 01:41 AM

Costco has Halloween costumes out.

^same in Bucks County, PA. Can't get away with mowing every other week this year...the grass won't stop growing. Still, the signs are pointing to summer's end. Less daylight, a few leaves dropping in the pool, shagbark hickory trees dropping their first nuts, etc.

onewhippedpuppy 08-20-2017 04:07 AM

95 here yesterday, same forecast today. Great weekend at the lake!

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Absolutely. Actually this summer has been pretty mild. It's only seemed really hot and really muggy for a couple of weeks now.

Every other week? I'm not in a house now, but when I was, you needed to mow at least once a week. If we were getting rain regularly, then every 4-5 days probably would have been better. If you do it every two weeks, it would be a pain to keep from killing the mower engine with the extra load.

ckelly78z 08-20-2017 05:36 AM

This Summer definately hasn't been hot like normal in NW Ohio. There has been so much rain that I haven't had to add any water to the pool all year. I have been still using the pool, and will continue to do so as long as the water stays around 80 degrees+. The nights are getting cooler, but my favorite time of the year is October with crisp nights, clear days, and falling leaves.

flatbutt 08-20-2017 06:08 AM

same here in NWNJ, I haven't needed to water the garden more than 2 maybe 3 three times. It is still warm enough for shorts and a beater even at night. The only need for sleeves are the hungry hungry skeeters.

sugarwood 08-20-2017 08:35 AM

90F on Tuesday. It's still mid August!

Jim Richards 08-20-2017 09:53 AM

Beautiful partly cloudy day in SoCal. The temp is 70 degrees, and there's a pleasant sea breeze. I can get used to this. ;)

Yep, summer leaves but the seasonal changes are subtle here. Oddly, like Dean, I noticed it on the morning of Aug. 17. Very subtle difference in the air temp, clouds, and most importantly, the angle of the sun. It was almost a subconscious recognition that things were different, but it caught my attention. The change is in. We will undoubtedly get more warm, even hot days, but the sun's angle will not change back, this year. It's nearly over.

Weather is one aspect of summer, but the position of the sun is the only true measure. Though, technically, summer doesn't end until the sun crosses the equator in September, the full effect of summer is on the way out at an ever increasing pace. All we can say now, when things warm up again, is that's it's "summer-like."

LEAKYSEALS951 08-20-2017 11:00 AM

Haven't mowed the lawn in over a month. Probably need to, but it's too damn hot.

Jim Richards 08-20-2017 11:25 AM

I do miss the long daylight hours.

livi 08-21-2017 01:58 AM

The shorter the days the earlier you need to start drinking.

72doug2,2S 08-21-2017 02:34 AM

I will miss summer, no weather event in SWFL, but all the northern retirees will be flocking down taking all the doctor's appointments, creating long waits at restaurants, and driving stupidly. Fortunately they're all in bed by 8.
