My Father In-Law
Last night I lost my father in law unexpectedly due to a heart issue. He is the reason I am even here on Pelican in the first place. He was a member but not super active mostly buying and selling some parts and doing lots of research. I don't even know his user name (wish I did).
He was active in Porsches since the early 70s in California and Washington and a 40 + year member of the PCA. Very much an old school Porsche guy. He auto-crossed 911s and owned many over the years as well as a few 914s. He got me started in this world and I am forever grateful. He thought I would have fun with one and I was skeptical! He gave me a roller an engine and a trans. I just had to put it all together . He shared voluminous amounts of experience, help in the garage and parts. He spent hours on the phone talking me through issues as they came up. We became not only father in-law/son-in law but very good friends. I always felt like I won the in-law lottery. I was welcomed into the family from day 1.He had some really cool projects in the works that he didn't get to finish. He was rebuilding a Harley and putting the finishing touches on an 83' 911 cab with a 964 turbo engine. There was always something cool happening in his shop. I am really going to miss him.

Sorry for your loss, sounds like you have some good memories to remember him with and sounds like you had lots of food quality time with him.

Really sorry about your loss, he sounds like one hell of a guy. Find solace in the relationship that you had. Maybe you could finish one of those projects as a tribute of sorts?

You did. I bet he felt he had won the son-in-law lottery.
Speaks volumes about both of you. Much more rare than you think, btw. Unclebilly and I share the same fate.

Sorry for your loss......if I knew I would get a father-in-law like yours...I would be much more inclined towards marriage!
Guess that's a pretty good tribute toward the man.....as was yours.....and Matt has it right....finish one of his projects - for him.

You don't know his username here? Sorry to hear this.
I have a similar scenario, no help here due to 'privacy'.... Would have loved to see his tracks and trails here. Last edited by fingpilot; 10-16-2017 at 02:23 PM.. |

My condolences to you, your wife, and her family. I too wish I had a F-I-L like him. Let's just make sure that all of us with daughter's can be that kind of man to our daughter's husbands.

Sorry that your Porsche mentor has passed.
My sincere condolences. My wife's mother had a massive stroke last Friday. Not looking good for her at this point.

Thanks for all of the kind words! We are still definitely in shock and I had some teary moments today. Hopefully I can get some fun old Porsche pics up.
The idea of finishing one his projects is a good one though the 964 turbo work is probably out of my current budget. I will also hit up a moderator to see if they can help with the screen name.

My condolences...he was fortunate to have you as a son-in-law. Take solace in that.
If my daughter or her hubby had only an ounce of car guy in them, a certain 911S may have remained stateside..alas, not there.
