That car is well priced looking at the seat backs it has been certainly been used.
But for the price of a V6 Camry or Accord..why not, you only live once. |
That's a great price for that car if it is as described. 100,000 miles on these cars is nothing if it's been left stock and well maintained. They have a couple quirks, but given all the quirks we've encountered with our aircooled cars, the value, power and ease of use of the 996TT makes it a winner in my book.
Loved the one I bought for my wife so much that I bought a second one for myself. I can tell you that after years of minor issues here and there of the aircooled cars, it is nice to jump in a modern 911 that starts every time without some secret dance. The AC works and the noise insulation is nice (at my age), the heat works great, the suspension is capable, the ride is nice sans shakes and rattles that you have to justify to yourself with a "visceral" argument. I haven't gotten rid of my aircooled cars, but I have ground to love my 996TT....maybe a GT3 is next. lol |

I have had mine for a bit over 2 years now and have put about 6,000 miles on it. Like all older German Sports car, things will break and wear down. Mine had 34,xxx on it when I bought it and other than replacing the radiators, it has only been minor maintenance so far.
They build power and speed very fast, and if you aren't paying attention it will bite you in the form of a ticket, not bite you the way the old air cooled rear wheel drive turbos had the potential too. Like has been said, I get in and drive. I have the air cooled Westy so I still get to deal with those quirks. Just like any car, you pay for you get it, pay now or pay later is true on the 996TT just like any other 911. Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra cash for a 997TT, but that was just me after driving both. |
One of mine is tuned to 1.2 bar max with billet turbo compressors, 1 bar wastegates, Forge diverter valves, 5 bar fuel reg, and silicone F-pipe, free flowing exhaust and a DME tune. It's as mild as the fully stock one, but get on the throttle and it's a rocket. It's probably quicker than my 1000cc Ninja. I don't lust for a 997TT :)

Am I the only one who thinks that 100K miles for a Turbo is a lot?
|
It's a 16 yr old car...that's about 6000 miles per year. Being so easy to live with, it's not hard to believe someone would drive it 6000/yr. It's a supercar. How many supercars can do it like a 996TT?
190 MPH and it'll go 6000 miles per year with just an oil change. Try that with a Ferrari or Lambo of the same vintage. |
I think his question is rather if the 100,000 miles is at an ouchie point in future service needs.
There was an article on a turbo that went over 500K miles before the owner gave up on it. The frame holding together the rear suspension collapsed as the last thing to happen to it. |

I trust him, YMMV. |
There's a guy in Florida with a 290K mile 996 Turbo - he still runs it strong at Sebring
Brakes tires and clutches is about it |
I don't get the idea that certain cars have a finite "useful" life. Care, maintenance and utilization (and engineering) have large and varied impact.
IIRC the 500,000 mi car was from Minnesota and the owner drove it between Iowa and Minnesota year round. Given that kind of use 500,000 is freaking great! Even with a busted chassis. My cars have 90,000 miles and 86,000 miles, and I have no worries that they will become problems in 20k miles. As a matter of fact the 90K Miles car is in better shape than a lot of lower mileage cars I have worked on. |
590.000 miles
17k us dollars WDYT??? You Can Own this Porsche 996 Turbo With an Absurd 590,000 Miles |
I hope someone can post the actual article for posterity

I can't imagine how anyone can rack up that many miles on a car. He'd have to be driving, (really fast), for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for years.
I guess it's possible, I see plenty of 2 yr old diesel PU trucks w 150k miles. I've never put more than about 20k miles on one vehicle in my life, I have too many cars and bikes. |
