I had a buddy that knew the owner of an independent buy here pay here lot. They got into a discussion where my buddy hinted that he didn't think the purchasing terms were very consumer "friendly" and that perhaps people were being taken advantage of. The lot owner explained that without that option, most people with no/poor credit would not even own a car. He volunteered about 50% of his cars found their way back to the lot within a year or so, as the buyers flaked out on payments and he would have them repossessed.

It seems all they have for sale on the lots are endless supplies of 4 cyl stripper 3 series with CPO. Most of 'em demonstrators or whatever.

Lots of dealers of every make do that. All that does is push the problem back a few months.

Nope - what I thought was a reasonable purchase price had been the down payment, and she's been paying on a 13-year old car for two years! I can't believe she's spent about ten grand, all told, with nothing to show for it. I really wish they'd explained what she was doing at the time.

This is where I want to take jaws-of-life to the "typical familiar standard" of American society and break it apart.
1). We don't seek help from others because of egotistical sensitivity.
2). We criticize others too easily, which reinforces #1.
3). We rush to a decision without learning all the other options.
4). We don't talk about money and we don't talk about long term goals.

You must be down in the double-digits, because that's where they make their money
