remington 700
Any good / bad advice on the Remington 700 Tactical?
And yes, I know i can get a 'regular' 700 for much cheaper, or buy my own lowers/chassis, but I really like this one the way it comes from the factory... https://www.remington.com/rifles/bolt-action/model-700/model-700-tactical-chassis |
I built my own with an AICS magazine adapter and spent a fraction of that.

America is a country born of riflemen. You deserve a good rifle. Good men paid blood for the honor.
If you like the Remington Tactical, get it. It is a good technical rifle. A little work makes it a better technical rifle. Break-in is critical for accuracy. Out of the box, Savages are more accurate, but they do not offer the features of the Remington. If you want a spectacularly accurate rifle, out to 500 yards the Savage Long Range Precision Varmint LRPV in .204 Ruger or Norma 6BR is an absolute laserbeam. I am a veteran of the Houston Warehouse http://www.angelfire.com/ma3/max357/houston.html http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/10/18/secrets-of-the-houston-warehouse-lessons-in-extreme-rifle-accuracy/ The only interesting rifle is an accurate rifle. |
Nothing productive to offer except that it looks like fun!

I have to be honest, I can't imagine buying a modern Remington. I don't like their business, and I don't like their guns. Pick up a mid 1960's 870, and stick it next to a modern one. Just terrible.
I would buy a Ruger Precision Rifle or a Tikka T3x TAC A1 over that thing all day. Save some $ as well. |

I know about recall on certain models and I can get this NIB from a friend who is a dealer for less that $2K which is why I am considering it..

A friend of mine who is now deceased had Ed Brown build a Marine Corp sniper rifle for him in 308 with a Unertl MC sniper scope. His estate put all of his spoons up for auction, I was able to get this for under the price that my friend paid for the scope alone.

What on earth would you ever use a rifle like that for? Tactical plinking?
|
Jeff, in the past, it was sufficient to have a rifle that could dispatch dangerous game from 100 yards. But the reality is that today's game do Crossfit. You need a weapon can that drop them from at least 300 yards out to truly be safe. Having a rope wall or a series of tire barriers won't help, as they can scale the schiat out of obstacles with a 25lbs barbell in each paw.

Well its certainly a want, not a need!

Looks like a swing and a miss to me.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the 500 yard shots on unwounded elk and mulies... I guess I really hope most of these "long range tactical rifles" spend their time tactically plinking... |
I like it. Looks like fun.
There is an entire segment of shooters just trying to hit long distance metal gongs for bragging rights. Not my thing, but I get it. This is the polar opposite of a traditional African dangerous game rifle. Those things are open sights. Not sure how that topic even crept in here; oh I forgot. It's the internet. |
Woa, that's pricey.
More than my SCAR 17S |

And this is America. It's not about what you need, it's what you want. |

I just take one Katana and a well executed monkey roll :) One other comment on Remington in regards to 870s. I picked up an older one some months back, but looked around doing my window shopping. The new ones....I wouldn't have carried one out of the store if they had given it to me :( |
