Wow, this one hurts. Some of the greatest music ever. Just 7 months older than me. That gives a bit of pause

RIP and thanks for all the fantastic music....you will be missed! :(

Dammit. That's just the wrong way to greet the new week.

I knew every Steely Dan album cover to cover, song to song in HS.

Aja was released when I was in college. My favorite song from that album:

I was going to school across the country from my folks...it resonated, my own little Odyssey.

Enjoy: http://www.songfacts.com/blog/factorfiction/steely_dan/

RIP.

Aja came out when I graduated HS. I wore that album out on my Tecknics turntable, my Kenwood receiver and my Altec-Lansing speakers.

Big loss...Walter and Donald together were an immensely productive duo. We all know the lyrics, they still toured and sounded great after all these years. Not going to drink scotch whiskey all night long but I will have a shot of cuervo gold in his honor, RIP Walter.

bummed. as I've mentioned we saw them twice at Meriwether and they were serious musicians that truly cared about the quality of every note even live.

wasn't just a concert but an experience. state of mind kind of stuff (and I was one of few there that wasn't high).

so great they could produce music with great feeling yet also be technically demanding and proficient.

So many tunes to love but this is prolly my fav:

There are some great Youtube videos where you can hear the isolated tracks and understand how they created the sound. They are minimalists yet had such a full sound.

The Aja albums is stellar. If you look at the musicians who are the album are a whose who. The production is really tight. You need to listen to this on vinyl.

Great music. I was so immersed in career building, grad school, and raising a son that I thankfully missed most of the cultural dark days of the 70s, but Steely Dan burned through all the crap and was one of the bright lights. Thank you Mr. Becker.

From Wikipedia. Chevy Chase played drums with Becker and Fagen in college.

"Chase played drums with the college band The Leather Canary, headed by school friends Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Chase has called the group "a bad jazz band"; Becker and Fagen later founded the successful group Steely Dan. Chase has absolute pitch.[9] "

Life long lover of their unique sound. Incredible production...incredible lyrics. I wish all my records sounded as good as theirs. RIP Walter Becker, thank you for all the late nights...
