2 ARs now...

Haven't owned an AR since George Bush I was in office, and I've bought 2 since April.

Figured prices have bottomed out, the market is saturated, and deals about, so today is what we'll be calling the "good old days" in 10 years.

First $500 got me a complete PSA rifle w/ 20" barrel and A2 stock and some funky mlok hand guards. The hand guards gotta go... Still working on accuracy, haven't had the time or $ to spend sending lead down range, I've been counting my pennies...

But when I was looking at PSA's site to buy this thing, they had a complete lower w/ collapsing stock setup for a Glock mag fed carbine build. Checked with a buddy, he was sure I could finish it for under $400 more, I took it as challenge to get it to $300 more, and got half way...

PSA complete lower $205 after FFL
New Frontier 16" barrel and no-forward assist upper from aimsurplus for $150 delivered
Spinta blem bolt for $115
Free float tube hand guard, barrel nut, and end cap for $39 off ebay
$25 riser for dot
$25 charging handle
$35 factory Glock 33 round mag

Already owned the dot ($75 to get another one ... soon...) and the shop I bought the mag and charging handle from torqued the barrel nut on for me. Muzzle device will run $20 shipped (next paycheck), going with a basic A2 style bird cage.

Wally has Federal ammo for $20/100 after tax, a local gun shop had some good brass ammo for $19/100 after tax. And a buddy who has a few machine guns to feed has one of the automated dillon presses in 9mm set up...

lol... I just left the PSA store a couple hours ago, shooting at their indoor range.
Got home and UPS has delivered a box, from PSA.

About to build my third.

I can see 2 more uppers and some trigger work in store for the AR15, and if I decide to sell my FAL or I become suddenly flush with spare cash then an AR10 ...

My Palmetto Armory AR15 with a Nikon scope is affectionately known as a "snowflake stopper" !

I bought the rail mounted red laser pointer, and flashlight for night wet work.

I'm glad I have cheap AR taste, the $299 1989 Colt Lightweight Sporter got the AR out of my system.

You would take an AR-10 over an FAL ?????

I've been thinking about an M1A to take care of my .308 desires.
But seriously, all 3 are in the running. (FAL, M1A, AR10)

My issue is accuracy. Now, I don't expect the FAL to shoot golf balls at 150 yards (like my 10/22) but my current one can't keep a mag full on a 6" paper plate at 25 yards. The one before it was better, 4" at 25 yards. The best one was my first one - a Century build. Would give me consistent 2-2.5 MOA. I'd be happy with that.

I also have a 22 conversion for my FAL that I need to send back to the guy that made it for some work - it has had headspace issues since day one, tried in multiple rifles including 2 real belgian guns. Constant (30-50%) misfires, one OOB at least once every 40-50 rounds no matter how cleaned, scrubbed, and lubed it is.

While I love the FAL, mine just treat me like a biatch it seems.

After sighting in my AR, I have a 100 yard range out back that I use occasionally. Laying on a blanket with a bipod, and breathing correctly, I can shoot a clip into a 3"circle.....I attribute not being perfect to my moving around more than innacuracy.

I don't have room in my budget or my life for duplicates in purpose. I have a small stable of "never sells" and everything else tends to rotate through when the fancy hits. IE, my centerfire pistol - used to have a 1911, now have a CZ75BD. Some slices of the pie get sliced real thin so I can enjoy multiple flavors - I seem to have a lot of rimfires.... I can come up with a "need" for 2 or 3 more hand guns, and 2 or 3 more rifles. After that, it will be sell one to buy one. Mostly.

I've only have 1 AR and a receiver I have a M1A Loaded that I shoot better and bought it before the greater than 10 round mag ban here in California. I've shot a FAL and they are great battle rifles. The M1A beats it with better sites and trigger I have hit steel at 600 yards with open sights, I do have a nice scope on it and I have only been on a 700 yard range and was hitting 8" plates with a 70% success rate with wind flyers. I don't have a AR10 but the design beats a M1A and a FAL would beat a M1A for quicker fire rifle under 400 yards

That CZ is a sweet firearm. I shot a little p10c the other day and was absolutely impressed with it. Glock guy nevertheless.

I have 1 AR myself (Daniel's Defense). I spent quite money on it instead of building one, which would end up almost same (parts of my flavor).

However, i am a kind of guy who can't have too many things. Creates a sense of mental burden. I used to have close to 12 now down to 3. They are always on rotation. I use them all, every week. Enjoy them so much.

Next up is a 1911. Saving pennies for that.

CZ75 is what I was shooting at the range yesterday.
It is one of my "never sell" items.

I'm shocked at how poor the accuracy is on your FAL.
Maybe I should just move that to my SHTF list and keep eyeballing the M1A or AR10 for accuracy.

Me too. I've shot a few real deal Belgian guns, they are honest 2-3 moa rifles, the way the FAL was intended to be. I've also shot a FALO set up as a heavy target rifle with custom barrel, would do sub-MOA with the right hand loads....

Some nice looking spoons you guys have. Originally I was reluctant to join the AR group but since my dad has retired he went journeyman gunsmith and has made some really cool custom spoons as well. He just recently invested in a 'medium project' end mill/lathe combo for restoration work.

For shiz and gigs he even built a .50 Beowulf. F*** it was painful to shoot. 2 mags and I was done. I'll try almost anything twice. Once was enough for that.

All that aside, the AR is a magnificent platform with so many options. Have any of you checked out binary triggers as well? Apparently legal as they are not a "full auto" or "select fire" modification to the rifle.

Wow... It seems like in the 90s, that was considered illegal.

The National Firearms Act defines "machinegun" as "any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger." 26 U.S.C. 5845(b)."

However now I see that the BATF is ruling that pulling the trigger and releasing the trigger are two separate functions, thus not violating the above law.

I think the device would be a lot of fun at the range, at least for a few boxes, however I also think that the device poses a possible safety issue in that once you have fired the first round, you are committed to firing a second round when you release the trigger. Also... $430. Ouch.

edit: nevermind. Found this on their website:
Release round can be canceled by simply moving our Patent Pending selector out of Binary mode while holding the trigger back.
