Porsche Museum 959

I was lucky enough to attend the Porsche museum when they had a 959 exhibit. I thought I would share-

They had a cutaway of a 959 and I took a lot of closeup pictures-

i've always wondered how they make a cutawaycar.
Do they first build a complete, functional car and then slice it up with a water jet,
Or do they built half a car..

They build the cut-away with planning. No doubt all parts are cut then assembled.

Glad to share.

This link is to the 50th anniversary of the 911 exhibit.

I worked the Los Angeles Auto Show Porsche exhibit in 1986 with the cut-away 959 on display.

Have some film photos somewhere in a Photomat envelope but god knows where.

I took this in Berlin in 1988 when it was still a new car.

One of the smallish local shops had a 959 in for service. I think the car belonged to the Ingram Collection. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! It really was like witnessing a rainbow unicorn...with wings!

Though short lived due to the cancellation of Group B, I always loved the 961 (959 in race trim). I think the car only had like three races before the series was canned.
