Paypal DOES NOT protect vehicle purchases, repeat DOES NOT.
If they only want to use paypal to buy a vehicle they are scamming. You think the money is transferred, then bang, the account was bogus and paypal takes it back. Paypal is not a bank to bank transfer. Selling vehicles at a distance make a bill of sale... After they sign the bill of sale you will send a copy of the title and your driver's license proving ownership for sale. Also include the payment terms, cash or bank transfer and the date will be expected. Include that title and vehicle will not be relinquished until you have received payment in full either cash or bank transfer. Include miles, make, model, and VIN. Also include that the vehicle is as is, and that the sale is forfeit if the above conditions and dates are not met. A bill of sale like this protects both parties. It protects the seller if no money is transfered. It protects the buyer with copies of signed bill of sale, title, and driver's license. This is what the car lots that sell cars over the internet/phone do. If buyer does not agree to this, Sell the vehicle to that local cash buyer. I have both bought and sold 5 vehicles like this. I've had so-called buyers that insisted on paypal because it protected both buyer and seller. I sent them a link to the paypal page that says they do not protect vehicle purchases. I've also had sellers that signed a bill of sale, but never came up with a copy of the title or a driver's license, or the bank account information to wire the money to. Don't know why the even bothered to send me a signed copy of the bill of sale. Again, Paypal does not protect buyers or sellers in vehicle transactions and states so. |

I know this is a big time waster. I've already been at it a few days. I wait a day, send a text, and get a response right away. If he wants to waste my time, I'll waste a bit of his.
My latest response, after looking at Hanscom AFB on google earth and finding a bar across the street: The reason I've insisted on cash- I owe a not-so-nice guy a fair amount. I know he's monitoring my computer activity for financial transactions. If he sees I got a paypal payment and he doesn't get cash within a few minutes I'm in trouble. I spoke with my cousin's ex-wife who is a barmaid at Waxy O'Connor's across the road from Hanscom. You can bring her a check. As soon as she calls I can help load the truck. My name is Stuart Pidd. I go by Stu. Make the check out to Stu Pidd. |
