$1,000 - In a shop in Delta, Co for a PPI. Must be gone by the end of the week.
In the spring, I helped the wife's grandson buy a Range Rover Project he had his heart set on.

Project is over the head of a 16 year old. I think he'd let it go for $1,000 if someone got it out of there this week.

Runs good, good Trans, body/paint pretty good (no dents or rust)....Seats cracked. 132,000 miles.

Issues: Brakes, ck engine light and air conditioning. PPI attached. PM me for contact info.

Parents had one of similar vintage with new. It had a random "Auto-lock" feature.

My step-father dropped someone off at the airport and got out of the car to say bye and the door locked by itself and he couldn't back in. Fortunately, due to whatever issue, it unlocked itself later. That car spent half its life on a flatbed back to the dealer.

There's me thinking that it was a smoking deal for someone who could wrench. I ran a '91 for a couple of years and although it never let me down it seems like it was assembled by drunks and misanthropes. Stuff just broke all the time. I loved it.

Neil - Having owned an XKE, MG and Austin Healey, I would agree with you. I think there is a market for these old things, just like there is a market for Jag.....

Would be a good deal for the interested party that could roll up their sleeves for sure....

I had a 1995 LWB in the same color. For a moment I thought I should add this one to my garage... Then a cold sweat broke out as I remembered the trauma of owning a Range Rover. Will it start today? Which steering swivel will go out this week? Will the air suspension be flat tomorrow morning? Which dash vent will smoke come out of today? You are right there is a market for those cars... Just not me.

That said when mine worked it was a brilliant vehicle. It just didn't work all that often.

No disrespect to the British motoring industry of course, but the Chinese aren't buying scrap metal like they used to either.

There's no such thing as a bargain RR.
Even free is too expensive.

Got a 1992 RR for $800 in similar shape.

Was able to fix brake issue (no power brakes) with an $8 fuse and a fluid flush.
AC/Heat never worked worth a darn, period. Goes through the motions but no real effect. Nothing wrong, just a sucky system.
Only interior issue was headliner drooping and some of the wood trim flaking. Leather was good.
Put some Cocomats in that made carpet look good.

Oh yeah, driving along the engine would stop for no apparent reason. After about 5 min it would start up again and run fine.
Replaced the Alternator. It tested okay, but was aftermarket and just didn't look right wiring wise. Not that anything on a RR wiring wise looks right. Replacing it fixed the shutting off?

Cleaned it up and sold it for $2500.

Driving it made you feel like you were in some kind of Safari Tour with all the windows.
Heated front and rear windows word well and was a good thing because heater didn't.

what's the new sticker price for that thing back in the day?

Had a Discovery, same year. Was great.

In over 120k miles replaced brakes 2x, couple batteries, tires. Replaced alternator.
Tires.

That's it. one of the best trucks I've owned.

Doesn't matter, but a little history of the 16 year old owner:

Orphan from Columbia....His mother and 2 of her sisters come to the US from Columbia...His mother dies of breast cancer when he is 4 yrs old....He's never met his father....One sister takes him in a few years and then the other when he was 6....That sister marries my wife's son.

Wife's son is now a Prison Chaplain in Delta, CO.......16 year old that never met his father gets word a few years ago that his father was killed in a MC accident in Columiba.......So, both parents gone.

He is now a typical 16 year old that knows it all and has a chip on his shoulder.....I've bought him 2 dirt bikes over the years and taken him snowmobiling.....Helped him buy the Range Rover....At this point, I'm not really feeling the LOVE and he's own his own for now.........Info only..

Why don't you just buy an old MG? - same misery .....but easier to work on

I'll add that I made good living working on those at a Indie specialty shop. Best job security ever as even the local new LR dealer wouldn't touch them. After seeing the amazing 'engineering' and execution of the product, the only thing that impressed me was the frame and drive axle strength.

When I was in Porsche sales, we had a buyer bring one on the lot as part of a potential trade for a new Cayenne. The owner had been using it on their farm as a work truck, so it was pretty used up. I admit it was cool. My sales manager wouldn't even take it as a trade for a few bucks and roll it to auction (what we did with cars we didn't want on the lot)! He had been burned before and said it was too much trouble to deal with and didn't want the risk that it would need something while they tried to get it to the auction house.

It is not very hard to make an old MG reliable. The same cannot be said for a RR.

I had a 91 SWB which I really liked. Thing was a beast, but "little" things kept needing fixing. I admit I was tempted when I saw this thread pop up, but looking at the photos and reading the PPI, I remembered how much I hated performing the repairs this one needs when I did them the first time on the 91.

Do like I did...Put it on Craigslist and let another unsuspecting fellow learn what an older RR really is about.

I was tempted for a moment myself but it wore off quickly, thankfully. :)

They are undeniably cool and strong in certain ways but they drive like a tank and get about the same fuel mileage. The way that English cars are cobbled together is mind-boggling compared to European or Asian cars.

I do some maintenance work and small repairs on a 2005 Bentley Arnage for a friend, it sits in a garage and I'm the only one who really drives it for the last several years.I recently had to change the trunk lift struts, (4 of them), I could not believe how crappy the whole thing is built compared to even the cheapest w123 Mercedes from 40 years ago. Some of the materials in the Bentley, (or a Range Rover), are expensive and they are luxurious but the engineering seems almost intentionally bad. Like "horse and buggy" level crap. :(
