Is 2 parts epoxy toxic?
The gut of my bathroom sink had small pits, very small. I used 2 parts epoxy to fill them up then sanded them smooth, but then stopped for a second thinking this water goes into our mouth every morning. Do you guys think it's ok or should it be replaced?

Stop drinking water out of your bathroom sink and you'll be fine.
![]() Seriously, I'm not seeing how one gets water in their mouth that has previously been "exposed" to the epoxy in the bottom of a sink, but regardless I don't see cured epoxy as being a health risk. The dust you may have potential inhaled during the sanding was probably more harmful. YMMV, not a doctor, yadda, yadda, yadda. ![]() Last edited by Eric Coffey; 08-09-2017 at 10:19 AM.. |

I would not worry about cured epoxy, and certainly not after I had run the water briefly.

A picture would be helpful.
Generally, Bondo ( or other similar epoxy based filler), is not waterproof. It requires topcoating. If you are wondering if epoxy, in general, is safe for potable water containers? That is the typical interior lining of most water treatment ponds, piping and storage tanks. You most likely have been drinking out of epoxy your whole life.

My water pipes run under the slab and several years ago they started developing leaks. Options were to run new pipes in attic, or have epoxy coating blown into the pipes.
So obviously at least ONE type of epoxy is safe for drinking water. |

Some epoxy types leach dangerous chemicals into the water. Others don't. For instance, dentists use epoxy that cures with exposure to light. Find the kind that is safe.

I lost my front teeth at age 8 in a car accident. The false replacements are bonded with epoxy, so I have the stuff in my mouth 24/7 for almost 30 years...hope its not toxic

Epoxy is toxic in it's liquid form. Usually associated with epoxy sensitivity which is a sort of rash itch. Once you have epoxy sensitivity it will be irritated when ever you use it. The sensitivity comes from skin contact while the epoxy is still wet.
I get it all the time. Very irritating lasts a few days. Wear your gloves to keep it off your hands or for big jobs Tyvek suit. |
