Sleeping bag for two?
 

Just back from a weekend of camping with the family and it's obvious I need to upgrade the kiddos sleeping bags rather than buying new bags for them I'm thinking of buying a double bag for the tweeze and I and putting the kids in our old sleeping bags.


Anyone have a double bag they like? Mostly just car camping at this point.

I've found this one that eats good reviews, but an 18lb canvas bag goes against all my camping training. Also only one zipper so that will be a pain.

Get a matched set and you can unzip completely and rezip together to double it. Most rectangular bags can do this, but not mummy bags (obviously). Or if you don't need serious warmth make your own with some sheets and light weight blankets stitched together properly. Much more comfortable in hot climes where you still want to be covered (ie, here in Florida where it can be mid 70s at night).

Shared sleeping bag does make tick checks a lot more fun :D

I have one called a "Big Boy" (sleeping bag size I think they are referring to), and it sleeps two almost comfortably.

We've tried the double sleeping bag and it just didn't work. Apparently I can't hold still all night long PLUS someone always has to go to the bathroom a couple of times. That alas, is also me...

Before you spend the money on one, try zipping two bags together and see if the concept works for you. We wound up using an air mattress and unzipped bags OVER the top of us.

Our current bags are mummy bags so no zipping together. :(


Also most of our camping is chilly at night as we head up into the mountains or camp through the fall/spring/winter in the desert so we need some serious warmth. I see some cool double bags but they all get poor reviews for cold nights.

Angela, we already share a pretty small air mattress so I'm used to her squirining around! :D

Get your own bags that make yourselves happy. Preferably facing each other (R-zip and L-zip)

If you're friendly - you can nestle normal bags closer enough to snuggle or whatever. When sleepytime comes each does as they have to do. You're camping after all.

Also, chasing the warm spots/sealing out the cold can be fun with a willing partner.

(entertainment camping of course - for survival purposes like that whole Shackleton thing you might need double bags - IDK and don't want to...)

Sounds like normal bags may be the trick... I guess I should look to see if I can find some good square bags that could be zipped together if we were ever so inclined.

Our mummy bags zip together. Get the same brand and even if they are a different size, they should zip together, just not all the way up the larger bag.

My wife and I started out sharing a bag (man that was fun)..but eventually as we got older and actually wanted to sleep some...bought matching bags to zip together. Worked well.

That REI double sleeping thing looks alright. One problem with two rectangular bags zipped together is air leakage. Some of the zippers can leak air, and the top bag doesn't droop down in the middle enough to shut out cold air. A blanket inside the bag can somewhat remedy this. Some of the seams on the car camper type bags can also leak air. Zipping two bags together doesn't work out too well except for down (or synthetic) bags.

sleeping during a camping trip is uncomfortable enough (who gets great sleep camping?) but having someone so close is difficult, even more uncomfortable. Any movement will wake the other person.

So do you guys not cuddle with your spouses at home? Seriously for us the small share air mattress has been no trouble. Our thought with the double bag was shared heat so we'd both be warmer

We did in our camping days...but as you get older the ground starts getting really hard (arthritis, joint pain, etc.).

If side sleepers, that (body heat) works well (spooning) for warmth. If on the ground (no air mattress) ..it helps a bit to dig out a slight depression for your hips and shoulders as the ground gets hard.

Did little of that when we were younger. Now with kids, no more. Wife likes no cuddle camping or at home.

there is just nothing romance inspiring about backpacking until all your underlayers are moist...3-4 days of that..nothing but a cold-ass creek side "splashy-splashy"..

a few days in..that single person mummy bag is more about "containment". haha..

campsuds are great,,but not that great.

When we go camping it is a motel with no high speed internet and only a twin bed.

We prefer king size bed and fast internet and large high def TV and a refrigerator in the room with a great safe parking place for the Porsche and a good restaurant close by. Danbury Connecticut had a great room like that and as a bonus a liquor store on the bottom level of the same building and double bonus a grocery store next door. The seafood across the street was wonderful.

Woke up to my one and only ever claustrophobic freak out in a two person sleeping bag with my wife.
