Museum tour 2017
I helped curate a truck exhibit at the Gilmore museum, and Mrs WD and I are finally getting to visit it and see what it looks like. On the way to Hickory Corners, MI we stopped at the NATMUS museum in Auburn, Indiana. NATMUS has some interesting vehicles, but they are mostly just warehoused in a building with poor lighting. It's worth a stop if you are in the area
![]() This Cornbinder hit 232 mph before crashing on the Bonneville Salt Flats. ![]() The 1948 prototype AMP car. The design was sold to Kaiser, who modified it and turned it into the Henry J. ![]() This is the 3rd Hemi Cuda made. The first two were scrapped. This one was taken apart to get data for the dealership flat rate manual, then reassembled and sold. It doesn't have a tach or any of the graphics put on production Hemi Cudas. ![]() A blast from the past! Full-on custom five-eight Chebby. Full continental kit, spotlight, louvered hood, lakes pipes. Just like the model car kits I used to build. ![]() A Studebaker Wagonaire. The rear sunroof seems like such a good idea I'm surprised no modern minivan offers it. ![]() This Henry J is a nice example of a car like the first one I owned. Mine had been repainted with a brush, red with a white top and a green interior that would have looked good in this car, but was god-awful in a red car. Made it to the Gilmore Museum Tuesday. Pics of that later if you want.
