I think the main problem that you'd have with mounting binos on that is that you'd probably not want to look at anything higher than 45-60º (and even 60º would probably require some serious contortions) off the horizon. I think that's why parallelogram mounts are so popular for binos. Many/most scopes have the viewing eye piece at 90º to the scope, so it's not a big deal for scopes.
That's part of the reason that when I was planning to get huge binoculars, I was going to get a set with 45º prisms. https://oberwerk.com/wp-content/uplo...7931740419.jpg |
Some good info here...https://binocularsky.com/binoc_mount.php

Also, IMHO, I wouldn't use an equatorial mount for anything but photography. I find them a pain for general viewing. Much more pleasant to use an alt-az mount as it keeps the eyepiece in an easy to use position.

Thanks Guys! This is the info I need to hear. There is so much I need to still learn…[emoji849]

Shot this Cygnus loop nebula the other night on a buddies tracking rig. 10 minute exposures stacked up over night.

Excellent! I shot some close up of the Veil a few weeks ago. Still have to shoot flats before processing.

Here are some images from the last couple of weeks. Had some time this weekend to do some processing.
10 hours worth of 3 minute exposures on part of the Veil nebula. https://scontent.fhio2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...4g&oe=63122C86 14.7 hours of 3 minute exposures on the Lobster Claw. https://scontent.fhio2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...CA&oe=631269EB 3.16 hours of the Dumbell nebula. https://scontent.fhio2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...gQ&oe=63111BD0 Lots of hours, not sure how many, of the Western Veil. https://scontent.fhio2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...UQ&oe=63117E8B And the Moon, no hours, no seconds, just fractions thereof. https://scontent.fhio2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...2Q&oe=63120F9D |
Eric, those are stunning! Do you print and frame any of these?

How can one respectfully request a print so it can be mounted on metal? Full credit to the professional who took it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
As usual, amazing stuff!

I got lucky a year or so back. Saturn was in view, and I had a cool older Jason Telescope to check it out. The real cool thing was Saturn's ring was tilted at an angle, just like the planet was saying "I got this man, been here for a long time" It was cool as hell. It might have been near Jupiter, can't remember. Very spacy!

You got lucky. Saturn's tilt changes in our perspective with a full cycle taking, I think, 30 years. I think we are currently at maximum tilt. If we are at max tilt (27º), then in 15 years, the rings will be edge on. One of the benefits of having the rings at or closer to their max angle is that you can see the "cassini division" which is the biggest gap in the rings. https://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/Imag.../cassini_2.gif https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/090...n_friedman.jpg |

I've got #1 of 2 and you've got #2 of 2. Or vice versa. :)
