That lifting is supposed to happen. It is called Ackerman. This is what causes the chassis to flex and provide traction. It should be roughly equal from side to side.
I run the Kid Kart program at our local track for 5-8 year olds... Here is a photo of my son from Monday night... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506637353.jpg And another from 2 weeks ago... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506637445.JPG He got started at 5, this was his 3rd year. His current kart will do 50 MPH+ on our 1.2km track. |
Outside wheel should do most of the steering when under lateral loads anyways. Im not sure inside wheel lift is the major cause of your issue but it may be a related symptom of some geometry being off. Are both rear wheels driven? It sounds absurd but when I was a kid alot of the toy type karts were 1 WD. You can add a bit of toe out for steering response as well.
It looks like the kart has a bunch of castor/king pin angle which I think is probably there for straight line stability so it may be the design intent. |
Here are some pictures that show the camber and caster adjustment pills on my son's kart.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506801067.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506801105.jpg As you can see there is an eccentric washer located by the socket head cap screws. Loads of adjustment. You could fit this to your son's kart to align it. Our Righetti bambino kart doesn't have this adjustment. |
Thanks guys... We got it 90% now... One of the U brackets is indeed welded in the wrong spot, further back from the other... The angle was also off... I rectified it the best I could with a BFH, and also realigned the front wheels a bit... Mostly, the biggest issue turned out to be the front right tire is not holding air long - I inflated it once and thought I was done, but it is super stiff and does not look or feel flat unless you stand on it (or check pressures, it's like a run flat)...
Fixed that, overinflated a little bit vs the other, and we now have satisfying turn in both directions. The kid is chuffed... I also reinforced the roll hoop and rerouted the belts better, pretty cool bit of kit for a 10y old... Thanks for your help !! |
Or balloon tires (golf cart) and convert to a kart/dune buggy.....

you need turbo tie rods and a boge front suspension kit from our host.
and obviously while you are in , a big brake upgrade kit, and a rear coilover setup. |

Looking at your video, it looks like the left front tire is straight while the right front is pitched out. Am I seeing that correctly?
