I'm worried about Owen Walter

He was fine Tuesday. He didn't come to breakfast Wed. AM, we searched the dog run and found him lying under a tree in the rain. Took him to his vet, who did an X-ray and saw a "filament of something" near his liver & stomach. They did exploratory surgery and couldn't find anything. They referred us to Ohio State University Vet School for further evaluation and a possible CT scan. We just returned from dropping him off. OSU took X-rays which also showed a very small "filament" of something. To me, from the looks of the radiographs it looks like one or more strands of the copper wire from the stranded conductor in a household extension cord, maybe 1" long. But they don't know. The CT scan will give them better info. They're due to call with the results any time.

Poor little duder isn't feeling well at all.

Prior to today the little guy's major trauma was the humiliation of being dressed up for Christmas by his mother.

Sure wishing your family member well. Have you found a chewed cord?

Hope all turns out ok for the little guy. Sure wish they'd have done a CT before exploratory surgery. Keep us updated.

Despite not feeling well I have to say he's a handsome boy! What a magnificent face. We are pulling for Owen and of course the entire household for a healthy outcome.

Best wishes for Owen's speedy recovery. He looks like a spirited little guy...hope he'll be back up to speed soon.

Poor guy. :(

WPOZZZ 10-13-2017 11:10 PM

What did the CT say?

Yep....both of them. Hurts when your little buddies hurt....

Hoping Owen Walter gets well soon....

What's with his name...unusual imo :)

Owen has a piece of fine wire firmly embedded in the wall of his stomach. The vet said it looks like it's been there a while and isn't the cause of his immediate problem. He does not recommend taking it out. It sounds like Owen has gastroenteritis or pancreatitis and the wire in the X-ray was a red herring. So he's getting fluids and rest and we'll pick him up tomorrow.
He's a hound dog, catches squirrels and chipmunks, runs through the horse park, eats god knows what and rolls in horse poop. The vet said letting him be a dog is the best thing for him.

Mrs WD gave Owen Walter his name. She says a little dog needs a big name. It must work because he only weighs 10 pounds, but he has no idea he is little. He has the heart of Mastiff. Here he is at the park with his sister.

May you enjoy each other for years to come. Thanks for the update.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. What a handsome pair. My little poodle something mix Suzy has been dealing with pancreatitis for a bit over a year. We have moved to a fat free/low fat prescription diet we enhance with boiled chicken. She's had a few relapses but we've caught those quickly. She's pushing 16 or so and is still otherwise doing great. She felt 100% better once the drugs kicked in.

Suzy is a cute one! I'm sorry she doesn't feel well. I had another schnauzer that had pancreatitis - the vet says it's common in the breed. Any chance Suzy is part Schauzer? She has a Schnauzer look to her.

Owen Walter is doing better. We drove to Columbus to see him today. He may come home tomorrow. He's got a feeding tube in his nose, but the vet called this evening and said he ate some food. First time since Wednesday. Saw his stitches. They really opened him up?

Wait till you see the Bill, that might give YOU a Heart Attack...

Lil Zoey had Pancreatise and eventually I had to put her down....

I learned my lesson do not give em TABLE SCRAPS...

Poor lil guy...he is thinking "What the fk is going on here...all I felt was a little blue after that squirrel."

WPOZZZ 10-14-2017 03:34 PM

Omg, poor Owen W! He'll be happier once he comes home...and gets the cone of shame off his head.

jhynesrockmtn 10-15-2017 06:39 AM

Suzy actually does quite well when we're careful with her food and watch her outside. No table scraps, no cat food and no eating dead stuff out behind the shop :-)

Hoping for a strong recovery for Owen!

Late to the thread but wishing Owen Walter many more years of being a big dog!

wdfifteen 10-15-2017 04:33 PM

Thank you for all the well wishes. It really means a lot to me. Somehow I don't worry about adults in tough situations, but kids and dogs,... I'm a wreck.
Owen Walter is home now, a little groggy still but eating and drinking (and peeing and farting, my gawd is he farting!!)
Thanks again for all the well wishes. Update and pics tomorrow.

jhynesrockmtn 10-16-2017 05:20 AM

That's a positive report. Hopefully he will continue to heal and feel better!
