MIG welding question
Can I use a solid core wire without shielding gas?
Reason why I ask, someone ran into my mail box and I need to repair it. I ran out of gas and only have solid core wire in the garage and the stores will be closed tomorrow being Sunday and Easter too. The weld needs to be strong enough to hold the box in place as well as when the mailman opens and closes it. Can I get away with it?

It really wont work for the lack of flux, you can however get some fluxcored wire at Lowe's or Home Depot and get the job done.

It can sort-of work. It will be messy, lots of spatter.
