okay CAT-PEOPLE. where do you keep the litter box?

i think the damn litter box is the Achilles heel of cat ownership. i hate it!! and my cat must feel really good after doing the business, because she litter-rally will spring forth from m the box with a GLEE, that drags a teaspoon of litter with her. we have that coolass "clever kitty" litter box as well. its suppose to help with litter mess and keep the dog away from the "kitty almond rocas."..i cant imagine the mess if we had a standard shallow box.

our litter box is in a spare room where we keep our modem and all my hunting gear. it sucks to dedicate a room like that. i might drag the box into the garage this week. or put a second box there, and transition her.

Our cats catcave is the laundry room. She sleeps in a cabinet under the sink (she can open the door so she comes and goes as she pleases) and her food/water and liter box are also in the laundry room. We close the pocket door to the room at night and she opens in the morning when she wants out. She does as she pleases and has us well trained :rolleyes:

with a litter that has a roof I've heard people installing a tunnel so all the sand dragging stays there..
I was going to but we gave up the cat.

We currently have 2 dogs (65# Aussie, and a 10# Pom), along with 2 inside rescue cats that never left. We keep thinking the one really annoying cat is dying, but she keeps springing back to life (obviously making full use of her 9 lives), and the other one in her life has never covered the transactioon that she just committed...OMG, nothing brings me off my evening recliner like the smell of raw cat crap.

We keep the litter in the out of the way coat closet which is off the living room, but it is still too close for the smell, and mess.

I really enjoy scritching the ears of a cat, and choose to do outside to the barn cats. The inside cats are domestic, but not domesticated.

In our mudroom/laundry room in a stall shower on top of a mat that covers the entire base of the shower. Remove LB, neatly fold the mat to keep LB overflow contained and remove.

Turn on shower.

Remove gas mask.

I fenced in a section of our patio so cats go out there to sun themselves, added plus we keep the cat box outside.

I keep the litter box in the laundry room downstairs. There is a cat hole in the bottom of the door. The cat always has access that way.

My cat loves to spread the litter everywhere so I have a litter catching rug in front of the litter box. I have to shake it out at least once a week but it is keeping the rest of the laundry room clean.

One time I left a large bag of cat litter out. The cat tore open the bag and spread the litter all over the room. Then she used the litter beach that she just created. It wasn't fun to come home to that mess. I now get the cat litter in the plastic buckets.

I don't recall the name but I had a cat litter box with a cover. The cover was tall and open on one end for access. I kept the box on the outside covered deck of our townhome. The weather is good enough here to do that mostly year round but I would move the box to the guest bathroom on stormy days.

We keep the box in our basement.

I have to clean it everyday if I want to work out in my home gym down there.

I learned this the hard way once, went down to do some push-ups and the ammonia smell hovering at the floor level made my head want to explode.

My wife and I were sick for the last two weeks, I finally made it down there yesterday and cleaned it out. Good thing before my wife filled it up before we got to sick to clean it, otherwise it would have been worse than it was. Over half the litter was put out with the trash, must have been 10lbs worth.

I keep a broom in the basement to brush off my gym rubber floor mat, gravel all over it from the cat.

Laundry room.

3 boxes in there for 4 cats.

2 covered, one open.

For some reason they seem to prefer the open one which is also the smallest. I scoop 3x's as much from that than the other 2 combined.

Don't feed them canned / wet food or at least limit how much they get.

The wet is what makes their poop stink.

Our 4 get "a treat" in the morning, 1/8th a can a piece. One can lasts 2 days.

They get all the dry they want.

For the urine / ammonia, you gotta scoop every day and replace all the litter every 30 days on average.

The clumping action can only hold so much, if you let it accumulate the clumps will break up when you try to clean the box and all you end up doing is stirring the stinky litter in with the clean litter.

Kinda defeats the purpose of scooping.

UconnTim97's suggestion of a mat under the box to catch scattered litter helps out a lot. Other than that, you're on your own.

This is so gross. I'm badly allergic to cats so I've never owned one, but they must be SUPER cool pets to deal with a litter box. Just the thought of a box of cat $hit inside my living area makes me nauseous.

Litter boxes are really only an issue if you don't clean them regularly.

Cats are generally clean animals, they dislike a dirty box as much as we do.

When the box gets dirty, like if you are smelling ammonia, remember they've been smelling it longer and they will go find someplace else to do their business.

Someplace you definitely won't appreciate.

Can't blame them, how would we like it if we had to crap in a toilet that people have been pissing and ****ting in all day without being flushed?

Here's ours for 2 cats. Outside on the patio near the kitty door. Have it surrounded by plexi to keep the rain out and of course a privacy screen. They wipe their feet on the way back in.

I love dogs... but picking up after them is not pleasant either... especially if you do the reverse plastic bag trick... a nice handful of warm squishy dog poo. ;)

Ya, just as gross. Luckily, I've always had a large rural property. I haven't picked up a dog poop in 30 years.

Our last cat is gone after 19 yrs. he basically taught himself to use the toilet. We kept litter box in the downstairs bathroom and kitty cigars went in the toilet. For a couple of days I left the seat up and did not flush. He started perching on the seat on his own.

Train your cat to use the toilet and flush when finished. It can be done fairly easily.

Wait for it to dry if soupy. Or grab a handful of leaves first. Flip the bag inside out. Done.

In a closet in our office. The cats freaked out when i accidentally closed the doors.
