Recycling Oil- having a little fun with it.

They do a hazardous waste collection at the ice arena near my house in October. I had gallons of used oil, so loaded up on the bicycle trailer and rode it on over!

When I try this in my car, I end up with oil/paint/whatever all over the rear cargo area. Happens every time, no matter what I do to try to prevent it.

I learned the hard way that you have to use containers with screw on tops, not milk cartons with the pop on lids.
Geez I'm glad we got rid of that car.

My county's HHW site has recently decided that they will only accept oil in DOT approved containers, otherwise they will confiscate your container. I've been using a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, not anymore. So they traded me a 5 gallon gas can, and a big 6x6 sticker that says "Waste Oil". Nice try, I like to rest the drain pan on top a funnel stuck into the top of the pail, I can't do that with the gas can because the neck is at an angle. I guess I'll have to find another bucket.

I've had good luck against spillage by screwing the tops back on, too. Putting the whole shebang in a garbage bag also guards against leakyseals.

I use my old window washer fluids jugs to hold my old oil- works almost perfectly especially around winter time. More than happy that they keep them!

I sometimes need to use lemonade jugs, but I pull the label off first.

Similarly I found out milk cartons disintegrate in about two weeks with oil in them.
