Porsche Sound Night 2017

Was one of the lucky 919 guests..
They talk about their cars, racing anekdotes, get racers from old and recent days up there.. crew bosses, and other famous Porsche folks... like Gijs van Lennep and Hans Metzeger.

I did not get the modern cars on video, as they sounded loud but not all that exceptional... Here are the oldies

And then in the end we had a drink in the museum cafetaria.. who comes stand at the table next to us: Hans Metzger himself.

Even had a little talk with him , in my limited German.. very friendly guy, and looks pretty well preserved for an 88 year old..If anybody had told me he was 68 I'de have bought it.

Anyway, the RSR had the best sound, followed by the 906.
the 917 felt a bit underwhelming, probably because there was no engine load just freespinning..So they had to be careful not to spin it to fast which i'm sure takes only slight twist of the control rack without the load.

Did your throat burn so badly from the smell of race gas that your ear wax melted and rolled down your neck?

I trust they hooked a pipe up to the exhaust and vented it out of the building.

2 sucking hoses..I would ave been fine without them really.. the room was big enough

That sort of affects the sound, but with such high energy levels that might not be such a bad thing indoors.

They just knocked em over with the blast from the modern cars.. Those were loud, and they had microphones and amplification as well.

The old cars simply did not rev like the new ones.
The 917 with a redline of 8500 rpm, by my reconing did not even break 5000 rpm
