Nice, they have all left here for there about a month ago. That would make a nice mount.

You scare that one to death? It’s pristine.

I’ve never hit a wood duck.

crazy right?

was tempted to mount it but my wife, patient and understanding though she is, will not tolerate stuffed critters in the house. thought about doing it for the office but I have kind of an industrial/modern vibe going on there and don't want to mess with it.

Beautiful. Must've died of a heart attack.

Yeah I'm torn on this one. How can you kill such a beautiful bird? But I love eating duck so...

My brother had his first woodie mounted. It looks like a prop for an AFLAC commercial. Not a great job. The bird almost looks like it smiling. I just smile and say, “nice!” When I see it.

The only mount I want is a full strut turkey. I got a quote of $1800! Haha. I just ate it.

My ex father in law is an avid hunter he and I got off on a very bad start the second or third time I met him. He shot a woodie and gave it to me.
"Isn't this a beautiful bird?"
"Umm, yes, beautiful. Why did you kill it?"
We never saw eye to eye on that subject, ever.

Maybe I will just shoot ugly ones from now on. Truth be told if it wasn't for hunters and Ducks Unlimited wood ducks could have been wiped out during the dust bowls in the thirties.

Why torn? Controlled hunting is good for the duck populations. I just don't get how ignorant people are to the benefits of hunting are to most species of game animals.

Ha I didn't know Ducks Unlimited were an international. I used to give them money to help court battle fight the farmers who were trying to drain a big lake to make more farmland. Jeez, New Zealand is just a whoooole lotta farms stuck together already. We don't need more farmland, we need more swamps, rivers, ducks and pheasants.

Nice.

I allowed a new set of Goose hunters on my farm for the first time in 15 years.

My son Jack hunted with them for three days and pronounced them safe. Jack is really good at talking the goose in. Final day he decided to get one for himself:

How would they have been wiped out?

Because of the drought there were no wetlands for reproduction. Ducks Unlimited was founded to work restoring and creating breeding areas. Quite an incredible task during the depression. Still doing the same work today.

Great picture. What coat is on your dog?

I looked up Moncton...what a beautiful part of the planet.

Jack is a really fine hunter in the sense that he is very respectful and careful, knows the right way to hunt and to not press the ducks and geese unnecessarily.

WD, DU is truly a conservation organization. I leaned on them pretty heavily when I bought my farm 22 plus years ago and their ethos was fantastic. They taught me a lot.

Wetlands, Conservation, Waterfowl, Duck Hunting - World Leader in Wetlands Conservation - Ducks Unlimited

BACKGROUND
Ducks Unlimited got its start in 1937 during the Dust Bowl when
North America’s drought-plagued waterfowl populations had
plunged to unprecedented lows. Determined not to sit idly by as
the continent’s waterfowl dwindled beyond recovery, a small group
of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became
known as Ducks Unlimited.
Its mission: habitat conservation.
Thanks to 80 years of abiding by that single mission, Ducks
Unlimited is now the world’s largest and most effective private,
nonprofit, waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization.
DU is able to deliver its work through a series of partnerships
with private individuals, landowners, agencies, scientific
communities and other entities

Had to go check the vest, it is made by Avery, I probably got it at Bass pro or Cabelas.
Thanks for the kind words, I guess I take where I live for granted. Although right now it is pretty cold. Lots of good fishing and hunting here, met George Bush Sr. while he was up here for a fishing trip .
We are only a days drive from Maryland too.
