West Coast customs Porsche
I was interested to see what the 356/ custom convertible which was discussed here sold for at Barrett-Jackson. This was the abomination from West Coast Customs which was featured on the Jay Leno clip... 315,700!

Looking at all the reality-TV-car-reconstruction shows on the air now, I would put the skills, designs and creations from WCC second from the bottom. Just above Unique Autos.
Those two shows prove to me that just because you can afford it does not mean you should. $300k is an order of 10 too much.

$315,700! That's nuts!
![]() EDIT: Even at that price did the owner break even?

I doubt they paid Jay for the episode. Jay showcases new (usually American made) products and claims there's no cost to the manufacturer for appearing on his show.

Wasn't thinking Leno got $$$. Rather, more like often seeing (when I subscribed) cars being featured in EXCELLENCE, then seeing them for sale shortly afterwards.
In the Leno episode, it was mentioned the car was for sale. Thus, "advertising".

Well ...
There are (and allways have been) people who build a project with the sole intention of getting it featured in a mag or winning a show , then selling it whilst surfing the tide of publicity .. On the opposite side of that , there was allways people spending years building a car that nobody knew about until the reporter stumbled upon it at a show , or heard rumors of greatness through owners clubs etc . At one time back in the uk , every “featured car” was either for sale , or the person involved was now “starting their own company” ![]() The internet now makes things SOOOOOO much easier !! Project binky ? Right from the start An obvious “stepping-stone” , but it’s great to see it from the off . Leno is cool , and more like a car-guy passing on tid-bits of information whilst chatting , but Oc choppers and the rest of the “reality tv petrol-heads” makes me cringe . When it’s got to the stage that you HAVE to come up with an hours tv , it’s all gone wrong .......... |
