Rat Rods, Music, Elvis and Wrastlin' - Oh My

This is an event that is hosted by The Karb Kings, a local 'traditional' car club. Think 50's - early 60's Rockabilly scene. And a scene it is! Largely dedicated to all things of the sport in the Rat Rod, Hot Rod tradition. Cars, live rockabilly music, dress, food, pin-up girl contest and yes, even live wrastlin'.

It is the only event like this near my area and we really enjoy it! There are basically no rules - anyone can come, participate and have fun. There is something for everyone and all tastes. It is the quintessential 3-ring circus all the time, all day.

Here are a few pics......................

A little Elvis thrown in for good measure

Some wrastlin' - there were 3 'events' - this was the girls segment complete with their 'managers' who were 'cheating' including a cash handoff to the 'referee'

This Hummer was engineered and executed to a very high level

How 'bout a numbers matching '62 Pontiac Catalina sporting a dual quad 421 Super Duty engine, 4-speed, 8 lug wheels?

Awesome angel hair interior on a 4 door 64 Plymouth

Surely that Hummer was done to a very low level

How can this possibly compare to pebble beach concours? It can't. Because this is a hellofa lot more fun!

PBR and corn dogs over wine & cheese.

LOVE that Catalina. Illustrates that these folks appreciate original as well.

My favorite too. From the days Pontiac was on top of Super Stock.

Second fave is the ratrod Hummer.

Not a great pic - 1955 GMC bus - mostly original outside, but with modern power, aluminum wheels and the inside was done very modern.

Looks like a fun event! I love the rat rods, Elvis, and the wresting!!!. However, is that Cruiser an example of how you make small fortune...by starting with a large fortune and wasting it "customising" that POS?

EDIT: oh well, he's having fun with it, all that matters...

Ohio George Montgomery, his 1933 Willys Gasser and Mustang door-slammer Funny Car Gasser. MALCO sponsored his cars. Know him from reputation but don't remember seeing him drive.

Lots of drag racers ran Willys Coupes in Gasser classes.

Being as the guys I hung with/worked for were road racers, I never understood the penchant for Willys Gassers but the list of successful Willys racers is long.

ETA: Willys Gasser drivers were one full step saner than the AA Blown/Fuel Altered guys but those two groups often raced on the same ticket.

Our home track was Green Valley Raceway in Smithville TX. Where the first road race every season was held and where Carroll Shelby did development work on Cobras and GT350 Mustangs (and us on our Vetta Ventura cars). Green Valley had a drag strip as part of the road course so we spent time there.
